I had similar thing happen to me after cutting myself while skinning a brown bear back in 2008 on kodiak
took almost 2 months for doctors to figure it out
by then had to do surgery to clean out infection
had to stick gauze in wound everyday to prevent it from healing inside out

I feel your pain. It really sucked. Every day I am thankful I figured out what the doctor's couldn't, and that I still have a thumb.

‘Seal finger’ infection in Alaska bear hunter was a medical first

It is only the second known case of a person contracting seal finger from an animal other than a seal, and the first implicating a bear.

Dang, there have been times I have successfully diagnosed a car problem that stumped the “experts” with the internet, but doing that on one of your own body parts is next level. I am wearing gloves more these days for animal processing. Do you know if this issue is specific to coastal brown bears and seals? Thanks for the info!

Man, that was an absolutely crazy story you shared. Good thing you were still doing your own due-diligence after multiple Dr. fails.
