True, but I planted tomatoes January 23rd in South Texas. No frost!
Remember, northern states migrate to south Texas in the winter because it's so warm. They're call "Snow Birds".
The RGV (Rio Grande Valley) is also called the "Winter Garden"! Citrus fruits are big crops in the RGV!
Screw worm flies are worse on newborns. They lay eggs in the navel before it dries.
That's just one entry point! Between the cactus, mesquite and other thorny plants, all the screw worm fly needs is broken skin. Not to mention barbed wire fences!

There is a medicated feed with a five day residual. Confirmed case in the Hill Country…. This is going to bad real quick. fredricksberg is almost 200 miles from Mexico

I was talking to a friend and told him I would help him fence off a bull pasture to calve his herd in the winter, he said no ,his wife’s family and neighbor they want to calve year round to lessen their shipping costs to auction,
They are young people and dont have a clue about worms

USDA has since determined that the dog initially reported through a veterinarian in Andrews County, Texas, resides in Lea County, New Mexico. As a result, the case has been reclassified as the first confirmed NWS case in New Mexico.

Gillespie county is on the same longitue as Austin.

USDA also confirmed an additional NWS case in a goat in Gillespie County, Texas. USDA APHIS and TAHC are actively working to gather additional information regarding the case, establish surveillance and testing in the area, and provide outreach materials and resources.

Feb is our colderst month by far. Most people target march-may when its mostly likely to rain to get good grass.

News Reported;

An upcoming New World Screwworm (NWS) producer meeting will be held on June 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Gillespie County Farm Bureau Office in Fredericksburg for members in and around Gillespie and Kerr Counties.

The meeting will provide updates on current NWS response efforts, information from state agencies, and insights from producers involved in response efforts since 2025.

Representatives from TAHC, Texas A&M AgriLife, and TPWD will be in attendance, followed by a producer panel discussion.
