Scope Zero help

This may be a little premature and hard to explain but I've never had trouble with a gun/scope until now.

I just got a Q mini fix in 300 blackout mainly for my son to start hunting but also because I like the platform. Because it's such a small package I wanted a scope that fit the package and also easy for a kid to see out of. I opted to stay away from LPVO's and mounted a GPO compact 3-12. This is about a $450 scope.

I mounted it in arken rings. I torqued all the screws to spec and used loctite. I marked all screws with a paint pen.

I went to the range and started on steel to get myself close. First shot low, went up 4 moa, shot again, half way to aim point, went up 4moa again. Next shot was within an inch, next shot splashed on the last.

I then went to paper. The next shot was 4moa high and 1 moa right which seemed weird. I made turret adjustments and could not get the shots to settle. They were jumping around from 4moa high to 4moa right. Hard to explain each shot but I've never had this trouble. That was with Barnes 110. So I decided to switch ammo and put in Hornady black.

The Hornady black hit level, 3moa right. I adjusted windage and hit the edge of the center orange. Finally. My next shot, 4moa left, my next shot, 5moa left, next shot within 1 moa of center but left.

Again, hard to explain but this was after shooting within 1.25 moa with my 6.5PRC with no issues. With such a docile round I know it was not me shooting that terrible all of the sudden.

The gun is new and only had about 10 rounds of subs sent through previous to this. I'm sure there are still too many variables to pinpoint but I've never had trouble like this and certainly seemed like a scope issue. None of the screws had moved on the rings or ring mounts.

What would you all recommend as a next step? What's the best process to find the issue.

Test it with a different scope or break it down and start all over.

Or, it’s a 4 moa gun.

First thing I would do it makes sure action screws and everything else is right and right. I can't tell you how many people I run into at the range over the years with a rifle that's acting funny and it ended up that the action screws weren't tight. Then try a different scope if it still shoots like crap. Eliminate one variable at a time.

First thing I'd do is beat the scope after I adjusted, like we had to do 40 years ago. Handle of screwdriver, broomstick, cut off pool cue etc

I don’t think there’s action screws on a q mini fix guys?

Is this the 8” barreled version? How tight is it supposed to shoot?

I might have misunderstood but it seems you are making adjustments after every shot? If you are shooting groups then adjusting the scope to the groups great if not consider doing so. Its the first step in determining if its a rifle or scope issue. Again I may not be following your post correctly.

sounds like there could be several items to recheck as others have already stated. suggest to only change one thing at a time to properly diagnose the problem.

Thank you for all the replies. Busy Father’s Day weekend, just getting back on here.

No action screws with the Q. I’m guessing it’s a scope issue or a barrel issue. Or my process.

Yes I was making adjustments every shot. I usually do that until I’m close then start to shoot groups. This thing just kept jumping around so much. I think shooting small groups would probably be beneficial.

This is the 8” version. From what I’ve read I think I can expect 1.5 moa.

Again, this was probably premature but I think I’m going to try to group it and adjust it again then change scopes if need be.

is entirely worth the time it takes to watch.

and if you like it...

Loctite is a lubricant on fastener threads before it hardens and will increase the torque value and change the clamp load on the scope tube. Additionally, independent scope rings are guaranteed to be slightly off alignment without lapping.

I have a Kimber that did not dial correctly or shoot consistently using Talley rings until I got rid of the loctite and lapped the rings.

Those would be my two recommendations.

The 8” mini fix can be hard to shoot accurately, but with the right ammo you can expect sub moa accuracy IMG_5645.jpeg
