Scope Zero Check Thread

Pulled rail and scope, took the 7stw barrel off, smith turned a new 7prc barrel and test fired it, pulled it and put the 7stw barrel back on, put the rail and scope back on. Double checked 200 zero then shot one at 600 and one at 800 in pretty good wind.

Today (4/20) after a 30-40 miles of dirt roads, a couple hikes, and a few dozen shots. I forgot the scope was dialed 0.2 mil right (for another load).

From the looks of the yardage markers, the shooters at your range are comfortable out to 600 but can't hit chit at 800

39* and raining today. Zero check before doing some offhand practice. Hornady American Gunner, Im down to my last couple hundred rounds. (Frowny face). Little lower than normal. Did not adjust.


Finished with a 10round group of Hornady Match 140gr. Third time its been like this, this stuff just doesnt group in this gun. (Very frowny face)

I'm not sure if I have a zero shift or if it's me sucking. I have in the past had issues with vertical changes in zero due to my sucking.

Update: checked zero prone in controlled conditions the following weekend and was definitely 0.1mil high on previous trip. I have in the past noticed that I tend to shoot 0.1mil higher when prone than from a bench. I need to figure out why.

Have you checked for parallax in both positions?

The “You Suck At Shooting” sticker remains firmly planted on my rifle case.

Focused a bit on cheek weld and position behind the rifle. Less crosswind on this day, more straight behind. Not much abuse on the rifles between shooting sessions, just some dirt road rides.

Adjusted the 6.5 right .2 MIL (previous session said 0.1 MIL right) and made some solid first shot impacts on steel and rocks between 390 and 455. Backed up to 530 at a different angle and the 5-15mph gusty wind got tricky to call. Definitely changing direction along the trajectory. Good training conditions, learned a lot.

Obviously, the .223 was more affected by the wind. Had a tougher time with impacts with it. Previous zeroing was with Norma GTM 77gr SMK's. This one was with Black Hills 77gr TMK's.

The rifle has ridden for miles of pasture and washboard roads in my side by side. I can’t really account for the .1 mil left shift except for possibly wind. I did make a .1 mil right adjustment after this group.

Rifle has driven a couple thousand KM and shot 5 deer & a pig in that 2 month period. No issues. I have never had a zero shift with this combo of more than 0.1MRAD in 6 years.

First time this rig has exhibited a POI shift in about 4000 rounds. Not unhappy with the grouping but it’s about a half mil low. It’s a T3x stainless 18” 223 in a Stocky’s VG Hunter stock with a SWFA 6x in Sportsmatch rings and an AB Raptor 8-stack. The group is 10-rounds of Black Hills TMK under an inch. Also shot AAC 77gr TMK (~2”) and AAC 77gr OTM (~2.5”). All three had the same general POI. Historically the black hills ammo always had about a half inch higher POI than the AAC loads.

Getting a load figured out for this Kimber MT 7 WSM. Finally got my ADG brass all formed up. 8lbs 7 OZ with the polonium 30 can. I need to bump this charge .3-.5 to tighten up some vertical but it’s promising. Shot off a pack with a rear bag.
