Scope suggestions for $700-$800 please!

My final thoughts on this topic are simple. If the scope doesn’t pass basic tracking and repeating tests by an objective observer, I won’t recommend it. Passing the drop test is important too. I need a reliable sighting device on my rifle. I don’t need a world class telescope. Once glass is at a sufficient level, reliability is paramount.

I would also happily use a fixed 6x or 8x on every rifle I own (except my AR, which has a 4x ACOG). I don’t like 2.5-4x hunting scopes. They don’t have enough magnification for placing shots between obstacles in any kind of woods situation. The most powerful optic I currently own is a fixed 12x on a varmint rifle.

For my middle aged eyes I love the Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-10x56mm scope.

It is very bright and clear, and uses special materials to provide a bright dot in the middle without any battery, keeping weight down.

I use it at the range to hit steel at a half mile (860 yards) no problem.

They have a lot of different reticle choices for it.

I put a Trijicon credo 2.5-15 on my 6.5 prc and love it. Picked it up for $840 on optics planet. Look for some coupons or used. Having a scope that passes the drop test is worth the extra money to me.

I have spent too much time researching this. I've landed on the Trijicon Credo 3x9 in Green Mil Square. Maybe some new stuff coming out in January from in this line, but prices are good (under $600) right now. C_Does has a great review on youtube and Form did a scope eval in another thread praising its reliability.

I don't think passing the drop test is necessary for all users and all hunting types.

I do think the Trijicon Huron 2.5-10 or 3-12 are good choices for hard use users,

For people who favor light weight scopes, I love my 2.5-10 VX-3i scopes. They have held zero and I love the glass. But, I am not hiking 4 days into the back country with the rifles they are mounted to.

Where are you finding them under $600?

I bought one on Amazon this past summer for $575 but I sent it back. The scope itself is nice, I can't get past all of the reticles floating in the field of view vs running edge to edge.

I already have 2. Hands down my favorite non dialing scope. I did send one back because the fiber optic rod was blocking one side of the mil dots. Just like guns-- I just want one more🤣

As said above if you are AD, veteran or first responder. Leupold, Vortex( through Govx), and swampfox all have killer discounts for them.

I just feel like the 9x is on the low side for how far I want to shoot on the range. A few of my buddies have 14x and 16x and they both get a little dicey after 500, so I feel like anything above 16 would be perfect.

I've shot steel out to 1k with my SWFA 6X. 600yds on big game would be the limit for me with 6X. Have shot quite a few elk and mule deer out west and never needed to shoot past 400yds.

There are a lot of us that have routinely shot 6x SWFA's out to 800++. 3-9x gets comfortably to 1k+. I never wish for more than my 3-12 offers until I get to 1400+ (and even then it's totally usable). My local range jumps from 1050ish to 1400, so I don't shoot nearly as much in between those distances (rocks and occasionally my own steel in the mountains)

Lowering what I think I need for magnification was a big factor in becoming more proficient with a rifle. It didn't happen in one jump, it was a multi-step process. I used to be a 10x at 200-400 yards guy, then a 6-7x at 200-400 and 10-15x at 600-800 (coincided with a move to FFP), then a 4-5x at 200-400, 6-8x at 600-800. The lower I go the better I shoot.

I don’t shoot long range but my friend does, we zero rifles together. He is an Accuracy International and Sako TRG guy with Schmidt and Bender and 1000 yards is a cake walk for him. He shoots 1000 at 10x or less, never any more, even though he’s running optics in the 20x plus range.
