Scope, rings and bases for Weatherby Vanguard?

I just ordered a Weatherby Vanguard Obsidian in .308 as a Xmas present "from" my wife. Use case will be deer, elk and black bear out to 350 yds max.

I'm looking at either the NF SHV 2-10 or Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 for scope. Which would you guys go with and why?

I'm also curious as to what base and rings or one piece base and rings you guys recommend?

FWIW, I stepped away from Rokslide for a couple years so I'm not up to date on the latest recommended flavors. When I left, SWFA and Trijicon Credo were all the rage. I'm not interested in SWFA anymore so please leave it out of recommendations. I'm open to other manufacturers though.

I’d add to your list and checkout the Trijicon Huron 2.5-10x40. I picked up one and threw it on a .243 and have been pretty impressed with it so far.

The Trijicon Accupoint will save you a lot of weight (if thats a concern) at only 13oz. Plus I really like the battery free illumination. If you want better MIL or MOA reticles the Credo 3-9 offers those for 17oz with illumination. I have had a SHV 2-10 in the past. Solid scope but only has MOA based reticle, on the heavy side depending on application.

The Vanguard is a Howa 1500 so you can use that in your search also.

I recently scoped a 1500 and went with an Outer Impact 20MOA rail and Warne MountainTech rings. I like them a lot and they are light.

I tried the DNZ rings also on that rifle and really liked them as well but I needed the 20MOA rail for the scope I chose so had to pull them off.

I have Talley lightweight rings on my Vanguard. Have done good for me.

I got one of those too when Euro was still selling them for $300. I put it on a CVA .300 blk and really like it. The eye relief isn't bad at all despite being listed as pretty damn short. I might consider switching it over to the Vanguard. Thanks!

It's the same internal parts as the Credo sans the illumination. They're good scopes so if you already have it you may as well use it. If you slap a Picatinny rail on both the Vanguard and the Blk then you can easily swap it back and forth. I like Trijicon rings for Trijicon scopes and Warner Mountain Tech for anything else.

Weight isn't really a concern for this rifle because of where and how I plan to use it. I figure it's gonna end up around 10 lbs regardless of what scope goes on it.

I'm leaning strongly towards the Accupoint because of the battery free illumination. I've been curious about it for years. I'm only considering the SHV because with Mil discount, it doesn't cost much more than the Accupoint.

Should have a recoil lug (lip) and I think it is the only pic rail that does for the Vnaguard.

A lot of rings would work; MDT premier (I just learned they are like my preferred TPS), Warne Mountain Tech, Talley Modern Sporting, Hawkins, Area419, Unknown Munitions, etc.

Scope, you seem to be on the right path.

I'll check and see if DNZ has a one piece mount for it. I have one on a R700 .308 with SWFA 10x42. I appreciate how simple it is but not sure how durable they are. I should probably research that.

I like the idea of one piece base and rings. I used to run Talleys but Form said they're prone to cracking. So then I switched to Hawkins hybrids on my hard use rifles. I don't want nor need the built in 25 moa on this rifle though.

I think I may end up with a rail and Warne mountain techs.

I was eyeballing the MDT premiers during the Black Friday sale. Never heard much about them though so didn't pull the trigger on them. I'll take a second look.

Yeah, after you destroyed my Helos 2-12, I've decided to stick with scopes that are recommended on here. I'm still trying to sell that damn thing.
