Swaro Z3 3-10x42

Reliable, light, excellent glass. I looked closely at a bunch of the other lightweight options and I personally couldn't find on that was comparable...

To buy new at the budget you've mentioned, most if not all of the above recommendations are out.
Nothing wrong with waiting a bit and finding some upper end glass used here or other classifieds.
As mentioned, there is the VX5-HD on the classifieds here (if its still available) that is close to your budget (he might come down a little). And that is about the best glass your gonna find for near $600. Otherwise your looking at 2nd tier glass.

i would say since you bought a light weight rifle Id save longer and get a swaro I don't have one yet still saving but suppose to be the lightest and clearest on the market. But also comes in at
z3 3-10 $729 and 12.6 ounces
z5s are more touch more than $1200

leupold
vx5 2-10 w/o cds is $749.99 16.4 ounces
vx3 4.5-14 cds is $599.99 13.5 ounces
vx3 3.5-10 with a boone and crocket is $549.99 12.6 ounces

with a max of 500 yards could look at a
vx3 2.5-8 $399.99 comes in at a whooping 11.4 ounces

vortex
viper 2.5-10 on sale right now for $249 (regular 409) 16.4 ounces
viper 4-16 $500 and 18.4 ounces
razor 3-15 $900 and 16.5 ounces

all prices were on midway usa

I have the Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x44 on my Kimber Montana. Looks and feels great on the Kimber. With Talley lightweight rings, it comes out at 6.61#

I put a Z3 3-10x42 on my kimber hunter with talley rings and it weighs 6lbs 3oz unloaded. I was able to score that scope for 500 bucks on ebay. If you have time, you can wait around for a deal.

FYI the razor hd lh 1.5-8 is on clearance at sportsman's Warehouse for $299. 13 oz. Hard to beat that glass for the price.

Price is in stores only.

Thanks fellas for your input.. a local shop has a Night Force in the SHV series so we are negotiating price. I really want to keep it light as possible without too much sacrifice. Your input is great as always... this is what makes Rokslide the best forum ... good luck this season and stay safe

My kimber Montana is still under 6.5lbs with the nightforce SHV, it feels like the perfect weight for me. I had a vx3 2.5-8 before and the gun was sub 6lb but I love having the night force scope, to me it’s worth the ~ 10 ounce weight increase to have such a good optic.

If you want to dial range, don’t bother with the Swarovski z5. Had to get rid of mine. Would not return to zero consistently. I’m not the only one who had this problem. Lot of guys on this forum had issues.

Knightforce or Zeiss are my choices for dialing up distance.
