Scope for SPR (Maven or SWFA)

I’m debating between the RS1.2 2.5-15 and the SWFA 3-15 for an AR. 18” barrel build that is a modern version of the Mk12.

Should I go for the Maven with center illumination? Or the SWFA without?

Both solid choices.

Reticles matter, to me at least. I just got my first Maven 2 days ago and have yet to use it. I have dry fired a lot and spent about 2 hours behind it. I think this is what I have been looking for.
I used my buddies SWFA last week for a dozen or so rounds. It is pretty good. I like the Maven a lot more. I also dont like that at some point SWFA could leave customers hanging for very extended periods with no communication.

If you're building an actual SPR, for SPR things...take this opinion for what it's worth, being some guy on the internet, but there's absolutely zero reason for glass to be on an SPR if it can't be used at night. So yes, Maven, because reticle and illumination.

Form, I'm keen to hear your reasons for this vs the RS1.2 - and guessing others would be interested also. Cheers!

The number one reason is the turrets turn so easily on the RS1.2. It’s a constant issue.

But overall the SWFA 3-15x G2 has:

1). Capped turrets
2). More visible reticle on low power
3). Tree reticle if desired (and a good one)

the Gen 1 I had on it died. Now I have then Gen 2 with the V2 reticle. Quite pleased with this combo. Wish the windage turret was half as long. Them when I put the cap on it’s so out of place.

I personally wouldn’t run my RS1.2 on a gasser.

Thanks for the info and great details. That’s what I was hoping for.

I’ll be getting the SWFA for this build.

If it were me - I’d be going with the Swfa with the V2. Tree reticles and gassers are PB&J. I rarely find myself dialing with my gassers (based on use case) so the tree reticles work better there.

My hunting rigs have the simple reticles and I’ll dial - so on a hunting gun it would be the v1.

However - the best gasser optic I’ve ever used is an ATACR 4-16. And if budget ever allows - go that route

I am about to get my first SFWA scope, in their 2.5-01x32 BDC configuration. I generally use nothing but nightforce, but for the price/weight, I’m trying this setup for a lighter weight gas gun.

My expectations aren’t real high, but I’m going in on this build with an open mind.
