I pulled the trigger on a tikka t3 superlight in 3006 today and now I'm trying to figure out how to set it up. I want a easy carry rifle so I don't want to go crazy heavy with the scope. I was looking at some of the nikon with bdc reticle. Its not in the budget to spend more than $400 on the scope but I'm open to suggestions and experience. Also what type of bases and rings should I buy. I'm a long time archer but I'm setting this up for my mule deer/coues deer rifle. Thanks very much.

There were a bunch of good deals on leupold vx2 and vx3 scopes a few months back. I would look into those and some Talley rings.

Ive had scopes slip on some lighter weight rifles with heavier scopes (16oz scope, 6lb .300wby) with the talley mounts. Between that and a severe paranoia of having my scope getting knocked i always use a picatinny rail with lightweight rings like the Nightforce ultralights from now on. might just be a mental thing, but it makes me feel better

I'm put a vx2 on my t3 with warne rings and I'm pretty darn happy with it.

I have a vortex diamondback hp with their BDC reticle and some talley rings on my t3. I love the set-up and didn't break the bank either.

I like my Leupold vx2 in extra low tally lightweights pretty well. But lately Ive been wondering if maybe I shouldn't just go to the stock tikka extra lows. When I bought my tallys, I didn't know about the tikka extra low rings. I like my scope pretty far forward, & I just wonder if I cant get it a little farther forward with the tikkas. Obviously I like em low as well. The other thing is, it seems like my setup gained an oz. in weight with the tallys. Maybe my fish scale is a little off? I would like to play around with it a little to make up my mind, but I have a bum knee right now & cant get to my f#!*ing stuff! Probably hard to get much lighter than the stock rings, but then I only have experience with those & tallys. Also, fwiw, I shoot a .270. Not really a hard kicker. My vx2 only weighs about 11 1/2 oz. which is pretty light.

I absolutely love my Swaro Z3 on my lightweight Kimber, but with your budget in mind I'd keep an eye on Camofire and the sorts for a Zeiss Terra or something similar and check around for Demo scopes. You can get some amazing deals on high end stuff for $400! I picked up a Zeiss Conquest HD5 demo for about $550 through EuroOptic s few months ago, so they can be had. I'd also step up to the Leupold Dual Dovetail ring setup and call it a day. While they will add some extra weight, that's one place I will not ever worry about a couple oz, just for the piece of mind. As long as the person installing them knows how to align and lap they will never let you down.

I have a VX3 40mm mounted on the DNZ one piece low. Quite happy with it. Been using DNZ on all rifles purchased in the past 3-4 years.

I have a T3 in .300 win mag. I had to toss the factory rings and went with Talley rings/bases due to slipping after a few boxes. I have a Nikon monarch 2.5-10x with a plex reticle and if I could do it again I would go with the 4-12x with a bdc reticle.

***i like the monarch in 42mm because I could run the 'low' talley rings with it.

Don't forget to buy a back up mag online!

I would second the one piece DNZ. American made and a supper easy install. I have on my T3 .300wsm with a Kahles scope. Great package for me.

I just bought a VX3i and talley lows for a new t3 light in 7-08. I'll let you know what I think next week.

I have used the Warne Tikka ring/base combo on 2 tikka rifles and they get the piss beat of them and have never skipped a beat. The nice thing with these ring/base combo is the front ring has the recoil lug in it for the action top. They are a little heavy but built solid. I also just picked up a Zeiss Terra 3x9x42 scope with the RZ6 reticle and for the money ($280) I dont think you can beat it. If your not dialing for shots it should be a great set up for a 30-06.

Mountain Tactical alloy rail and whatever lightweight ring you choose (I've been using Leupold Rifleman rings and watching them closely, so far not a thing wrong with them and they are waaay priced right ) put a Leupold VX3i in those rings and go kill some stuff

BTW, I shoot a T3 SL in '06 that I then had AI'd so I've been shooting it ALOT, those aluminum recoil lugs that we all thought would be "fine" are not after lots of recoils (and it's an '06) AND the T3x's have steel ones - change it out with a steel one from Mountain Tactical is my advice

Where'd you find one for $280 ??

talley lightweights, vx2 2-7x33 on a 30-06 T3. Awesome set-up. 5 moose, 1 deer, and a bunch of rounds at the range in the past two years and the scope has not budged.

Deadnutz lows for my Nikon Monarch with 42mm bell.
I have a EGW picatinny (0 MOA) new I packaging if you want.
