School Me On Wool

Yeah I love them, I run hot and it’s been working well this winter. I do plan to try the Ranger as well…
I've used an ll bean commando crewneck sweater for the past year. Really love it, very easy to make super warm with some baselayers.

I got a ranger sweater a month ago, and my first impression was I paid $318 for a sweater that doesn't itch, but functionally wasn't any better than the $89 commando.

Now I love the ranger. Warmer and better at cutting wind than the ll bean, but still has at least the same upper comfort level.

I know the Maine is supposed to be lighter and less itchy than the commando though.

Here's some feedback on duties for some of these products lately:

I ordered from Varuste twice and Varusteleka 3 times around black friday and a week or so after.

I was not charged for any duties at all on 4 of those orders and then got hammered by Fed Ex for the second Varuste order which was about 30% of the order including a "storage fee" which was almost half of it.

I sent 2 of the Varusteleka orders back. Both orders were nearly identical. Each package contained 2 pairs of Woolshell pants. One got hit for around $70 duties and the other one just got hit for $3.25.

Found it…thanks

Best for cold weather (below 50°F’ish): Varusteleka Sarma TST Woolshell Trousers. I had them modified by reducing the size of, and moving the cargo pockets to the front of the thighs. I can’t stand things sticking out on my sides. Also, it allowed side hip zip vents to be added. Loops at the bottom of the cuff were added for stretch cord to make them ad hoc gaiters. Truly excellent winter pants.
