school me on wheels, tires and shocks!

I'd just run it. I have the same truck, 19' Crew cab w/130,000 miles. I put Bilstein's and tires/rims on it day 1. (275/70/18) Do the same type of driving you describe, aside from the mileage. I average over 20k/year. Done nothing besides routine maintenance. Like stated above, mileage sucks. About 14/15mpg unless I'm towing, then it's 8 if I'm lucky.

Thanks all. I guess to add to my question what is an “efficient” lift to help increase off road capability. 2” level with 35s all terrains?

What I don’t want it some monster truck lift with mud tires ect…

@DapperDan @Cady Creek how do your rigs handle off road with those mods?

I gained an inch with the Bilsteins and an inch with the tires. So about the 2" your looking for. I'd be surprised if your's doesn't already have something based on the look and those tires w/no rubbing.
Mine see's limited offroad use, aside from a gravel road now and then so can't comment on anything too extreme. I have a 4" lifted Jeep w/35' for that.

A 2” lift will most likely allow you to fit 285/75R18 (35x11.5) without modifications, but that is not a guarantee. Also, your MPG will suffer.

What size are the current tires, and is there already a lift? Spacers? What kind of coilovers?

I had a 2012 tundra with 17’s and 35’s and had a 2.5” suspension lift up front. Expect to have to do the body mount chop and some trimming up front to prevent running.

Avoid the spacer puck kits. They are garbage and will wear out your components sooner and provide nothing beneficial for actual suspension travel.

I had bilstein 5160/6112’s with an 2” block in the back to keep some rake and liked them a lot.

Edit to add- your wheel offset will make a big difference in what you can clear. I had method 701’s which sat flush with my fender flares. IMG_8292.jpeg

Great tires and wheels. I wouldn't change anything. Not sure what your after, at first it sounded like a return to stock, now you mentioned a lift?

I think that your plenty capable off road right now.

Also, for tires on my tundra I ran a set of ko2’s. Just bought a set of ko3’s after getting a nail in a side wall. I rotated roughly every 5k miles and replaced them after around 95k miles. Probably could have gotten another 10k out of them.

1. Thats impressive to get 95k out of BFGs and 2. those things had to be so damn loud!

Every set of BFGs I have ever driven have gotten sooo much louder past 50% tread. I have a set now on my Silverado with 34k miles on them - I'll be lucky to get another 10-15k before they are completely done.

I been across gravel roads in northern kansas, hay pastures, and forest roads in Colorado. I’ll be back to Colorado this year in the flat tips area and my trucks capabilities are the least of my worries. Handles great. I don’t push my truck or go into areas that I shouldn’t be but I’ve had it in some spots where I’ve tested the travel on the front end and was impressed. Of course I’m going slow and almost a crawl. 18” wheels help a ton on ride quality and shock absorption on pot holes and bumps. 4 low is a monster on crawling in a tundra. And the bf Goodrich tires have handled everything I’ve thrown at them including some snow. Fuls economy is 14.5 hwy but I drive with a heavy foot. Over 16 and close to 17 if I drive it conservatively. I don’t think you’d be disappointed. If you go with Fox or similar on shocks you may find that it rides a little rougher. Mine is a daily driver that gets about 25k miles a year

I never noticed them get louder. And I rotated them religiously. Ride got a little rougher as they wore down but that’s with any tire.
