Scammer on this site

I inquired about a Bino harness for sale in the classifieds and sent a pm. Shortly after my pm I was sent a TEXT message. Here it is…
“Hey there, I'm texting about my Small Enclosed Marsupial Bino Harness from rokslide. What’s your shipping address? I take Venmo FF”.

A while after that I got a pm from the original poster (who definitely has nothing to do with this scam) addressing my pm inquiry. I asked him if he had sent me a text and he confirmed that he did not. ( didn’t think so, how could he have my phone number?) So somehow a scammer acquired my phone number to text me and knew about my ad inquiry. I don’t know anything about this kind of stuff, but not sure how else they could have gotten my info to contact me by text? At any rate it’s a very clever scam. Be cautious.

Took me 10 seconds to find your number you had previously posted. This is how people get scammed. Good for you for not falling for it.

Thanks for letting me know how they are doing it. These guys are skum, but I should have been more aware. Is there any way to remove previous posts or pms that have my number?

Two options
1. Go back to your original post, click on the three dots near the bottom of your post, (next to the word “report”), select “edit” and edit or delete the post.
2. Send a PM to a moderator and ask them to remove the post.

I deleted the post with your number. Not likely that the scammer is even a member here, anyone can read the forum.

I got caught on this same type of scam. Stuff only lined up because the OP was a guest and couldn’t receive messages. Another member who purchased something from the actual OP said he was G2G, but this scammer was clearly some random guy. At the least, goods and services only and maybe even a good old phone call with FaceTime. Lesson learned on my end. Paid the price of being dumb and not listening to my gut. I should have looked up more about the scam alerts as I’m seeing a lot more about this type of setup.
