I had a deal working on long range forum last week. I told the LEGIT poster of the ad that I would PM him to discuss details. The hacker accessed his PM and got my phone number and tried to move forward with payment details. The original guy had no idea someone had hacked his PMs and was trying to close the deal for him with his own scammer payment details. The only reason I caught it was he wouldn’t send me a pic of the gun with my name in the picture. It seemed fishy so I posted on the original guys post that he was giving me bad vibes. That’s when we figured out someone had hacked his PMs.

BE AWARE THAT YOUR PMs ARE NOT SECURE AND PEOPLE HAVE A WAY OF ACCESSING THEM. TAKE THE EXTRA STEPS TO CONFIRM LEGIT BEFORE SENDING PAYMENT TO ANYONE. ID NEVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENING BUT IT DID

That’s more or less what happened to me. If the scammer has hacked it to a legit members account it’s easy for things to go sideways. The original
Account owner had good feedback and I had no reason to be concerned. Lesson learned. To trust is to check.

The Hotmail email address appears to be a common theme with these scams. Happened to me to but I got refunded luckily. It was the "bigfoot" scammer and he used a Hotmail email as well. May be Something to look out for.

Same guy tried to sell that 223 tikka a couple weeks ago. He refused PP other than friends and family. Most hackers in the past are easy to sniff out by asking a few questions about the item specifics but this guy could bs his way through it. He even offered to do a video call when he got off work. Assuming this was a gesture to try and make me feel comfortable with the sale and to send the money without waiting until the end of the day to go through with the facetime.

PayPal G&S and since you're paying the fees anyway use a CC instead of your bank account, doesn't cost you any more. G&S should still work because it's actual fraud, but if it doesn't then your CC company will happily reverse the charges.

I bet if you poke around that forum you've posted your phone number somewhere in public. These scammers are building lists of phone numbers/usernames and inserting themselves so when they see somebody post "I'll take it" or whatever they're attempting to insert themselves to take payment. Do a search on that forum for the last 4 of your phone number.

Caught a scammer yesterday selling a NX8, wouldn't meet up in person with cash and only wanted PP F&F. Contacted a mod and they looked into it and banned the account. Got a text from the scammer this morning trying to have me send him a small depost, I told him he was a scammer and he told me that next time he will hack my account and I better watch out.

The issue with PayPal is that whether you use F&F or G&S as payment if you have to contest a fraudulent charge and the sense/find out that you purchased anything firearms related ( even a synthetic stock) it is a prohibited item and they’ll either not honor the claim or disable your account or both.
