So I have 1 non res preference point for MT purchased in 2025. Plan was to buy a point in MT in 2026 and apply for general deer. Plans changed and we will be pushing MT off until 2027. Would you:

1. Apply for the general deer tag with 1 point in hopes of not drawing. Not draw and get my point. Be set up for 2024.
2. Let the point go. Buy a point in 2026. Buy a point and apply 2027?
3. Any other ideas?

You cant buy a point in your listed senario 1. Once you deny the point at time of application you can not purchase it later. Your best bet is likely to let it go...buy one this points only period then again pre draw in 2027. Unless you want to get creative with party apps.

#2.

-If you apply solo in 2026 without a PP, you may very well draw with 1 PP. You would lose your PP and your ability to buy a PP later in 2026, sending you into the 2027 draw with 0 PP.

-If you apply as part of a party in 2026 without a PP, AND you can ensure your group average is .2-.8, you will likely not draw, but lose the non-refundable fee$ and license$. You go into the 2027 draw with 1 PP.

- (#2) - If you skip 2026 app period, your 2025 PP is zeroed out. Apply for 2026 PP during PP period. Buy another during the 2027 license application. Keep in mind that 2 PP has been all but guaranteed for DEER COMBO in the past, but the reduction in NR licenses that begins in 2026 may change that.

Good luck.

Can you apply for the elk/deer combo, elect for no point. Not draw. And then apply in 2027 for deer combo and select a point then (2 pts)?

I'd have to look at the costs to apply later and if you net ahead by not applying this year.
