My brother bought a used Savage Varmint Model 12 in 22-250 for prairie dogs with an original, non-accutrigger. The factory trigger pull sucks and hes looking for a new trigger to get it down to ~3lbs.

Been watching YouTube videos to try learn if this is something I can do for him, or if he should take it to a smith. I havent yet taken the stock off to see the kind of trigger on the gun yet.

Are drop in triggers available for Model 12s?

Most of the triggers I'm finding are for 110s and Stevens 200s are Model 12 and 110/200 triggers interchangeable?

Some YT videos make it look easy while others make it look complicated to completely remove every spring, sear, pin and trigger assembly to do it.

Last thing I want to do is mess with it and make it unsafe. But if I can find a drop in where I'm pulling one pin and switching it out. It saves $$ on a smith.

Timney will fit fine. Look at the chart at the bottom of the link. https://timneytriggers.com/savage-110-stevens-200/

Any videos of removing the original trigger with the Timney?

I'm finding a bunch with the Rifle Basix trigger. But all the Timney install videos are for the Accutrigger.

So I'm wondering if I will have to piece the videos together and watch the first half of 1 video to see how to remove the factory POS trigger and the 2nd half of another to see how to installing a Timney from an Accutrigger.

The Timney directions, while detailed and I'm sure helpful to some, just dont cut it as seeing video and walk-thrus are 100x better than words without pictures.

Sorry can't help you there.

So whats the difference between the drop in trigger you sent and something like the Rifle Basix SAV-2?

As I'm watching YouTube videos about this, all the Timney drop in triggers are replacing the Accutrigger. None I can find are replacing an original pre-2003 trigger.

All of those videos that show original trigger replacements are dedicated to the Rifle Basix trigger. Which goes for $175 compared to the $110 Timney.

Another Q I have is can I just remove the original trigger and replace it with the Timney Drop in? Will that make the trigger better? Is that what "drop in" in this case means?

Lastly, if I take this original trigger off, will it "look like" if someone took off an accutrigger? I guess, meaning, if I watch half a video of watching removing the original trigger. Can I watch another half of someone installing the Timney? Because again, all the Timney install videos are replacing Accutriggers. If its the same after stripping the trigger off, I couls just do a timney install after, right?

Sorry, but triggers are pretty critical on rifles and if you have too many questions, maybe you should find a gunsmith to do it. The trigger manufactures have install videos, I would watch that rather than some random Youtube guy.

100% agree with this. But I also like to gather as much info as I can and if I can, I like to. This is precisely why I dont reload. Just a lot of safety concerns. Safety is by far the most important thing.
