Savage Model 11/110 Stock upgrade

Hey guys,

I have a savage with the accustock in 7mm-08, and I am toying with the idea of upgrading the stock to something like this:
Savage Medalist SA DBM "M40 Style" Stock Bottom Bolt Release - Black by Bell and Carlson :: Savage Stocks :: Savage :: Tactical Works, Inc.

Just wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze as far as accuracy is considered?

Never really jazzed up a rifle before so consider me new to the game.

Rifle shoots well as it sits but I think it could stand some improvements. This whole idea came to fruition this past season when I noticed how much the stock flexed if I applied pressure to certain points on the forearm. Can't be good for accuracy right?

What kind of accuracy are you seeing out of it currently?

The stock flex is only really an issue if you are shooting from positions where it applies pressure to the barrel, which could change POI.

There is the subconscious challenge of being confident in a gun that has stock flex and worrying that it might affect your shot. I have a Model 11 in .308 with the Accustock. I noticed that both the forearm and grip have flex. Basically anything that isn't wrapped around the aluminum bedding block will bend. I deal with it, try not to torque the rifle in any shooting position, and will be buying a wood laminate or fiber/carbon stock for it when funds and desire allow.

.

1.5"ish groups at 100 with factory ammo. Plenty good enough I guess. But like you said, I hate second guessing myself and the gun. When I make a bad shot I spend my time wondering if it was me or the rifle.

I stiffened and bedded my model 11 trophy hunter 260 and painted it as well last winter. Shot well before with handloads 0.75" but poi would walk a little especially if shooting a fair amount. Bedded recoil lug and action and stiffened stock and now my only complaint is I got a little carried away with the epoxy and it's a little heavier than I anticipated. I went way overboard with epoxy in the Forend though

So, with 1.5" groups out of factory ammo I would say it's 50/50 groups will tighten up with a new stock.

There are more than a few variables to consider changing before you swap the stock that might tighten groups consistently.

But if the stock bothers you and you can afford it, just swap the stock.
