What would you do

Probly thinks highly of the guy and doesn't want you bugging him, with goofy questions about non existent problems
LOL that's a good deflection. So the factory won't rebarrel the action and now the smith doesn't want calls for barrel jobs. A LEO or anyone that served in the military can smell the BS here.

What?

It's not about shooting barrels out for me. I want a barrel to my specs on some of my guns.

I do not own a 100 but if for some reason it was difficult to swap barrels, that might deter me. Typically factory offering lengths, twists or profiles aren't what I want.

When a member posts info from the gun company saying not to do it, then a quick search says it's harder than most, it gives me pause.
Especially when you can just get the highly touted Tikka in here and order a barrel. Install and check headspace and you're off to the races. You can even find smiths to remove the barrel easily since it's been reported they can be difficult to remove.

I dunno 'bout that. I have bothersome customers come through my shop asking where they should go to get such n such worked on. I wont give them a single name. Those other shops dont deserve that, and they do the same for me.

Not sure what a leo or military has to do with anything?

Could always list the smith since I haven't found one to rebarrel a Sauer 100 yet. They probably be one of the few willing to do it. He'd have the market cornered.

The market cornered on who? There are about zero people that have tried to rebarrel a Sauer 100. The first person online that I ever saw talking about using one was me.

I work in a gunshop and I give out local smiths names out all the time. They leave their cards there so they can get the business. And when I worked in a ammo/ firearms manufacturer I gave out smiths names all the time. LEO and military make it a habit to sniff out BS. Good intel is a lifesaver.

If a smith can't handle a customer's rebarreling questions then they need to look for a new line of work.

Gunshop or not. A PITA customer is still a PITA customer. Would you send them to a smith that you liked?

oh you're smelling thats for sure

Why would anyone not give out there gunsmith's #? Maybe it's a small shop that doesn't want or need any extra work. Not sure but the Smith's I've used love word of mouth advertising. Specialized service or not, work is work to most.

Exactly. Google rebarreling a rifle and you'll get a ton of hits. Except for Sauer 100.

My friend is a retired armorer who will do anything his friends want, but he won’t advertise or charge a fee. When I offered to help spread his name, he asked me not to do that at all. He specifically doesn’t want to be known as a gunsmith. He just wants to keep it as a hobby. Yet he is, without a doubt, the finest gunsmith I know.

If you are good, you will be busy. Then you can afford to be selective about the people you do work for. That is a very nice place to be
