I had heard about this site from some of my friends that got me into using Kifaru packs. This seems like a great site full of good people and great information.

I am from Wrangell, Alaska and moved to Texas last year when I joined the Air Force. Looking forward to having some more free time this fall. Hopefully finding some public land hunts to go on.

Howdy, welcome to San Antonio. I hope you like the heat. Public land is scarce, but TPWD does have the info on their website. Try Camp Bullis for hunts also.

I hunted Camp Bullis quite a bit back when I was stationed in San Antonio. They had a "volunteer" program at the time, where you could earn priority in gun season stand drawings depending on how many hours you gave. Back then, you could bait, even hang automatic feeders during archery, you could hunt with rifle/handguns. It looks like it's shotgun/archery only now. The deer are plentiful, but quite small, but some can grow impressive racks for their size. There are also exotics like Axis deer in places. Fire ants were common, and there are some rattlesnakes.

If you have the time, read about Hunting Camp Bullis and take a drive up to the Hunting HQ this time of year to meet with the staff to give you a better feel for the place. Good luck!
