We used one in Challis last year for a mule deer. Hawleys I think, and they did a good job.

Also, the General store in Stanley has cold storage. The General store in Challis may also have the same, but never asked them.

Seems like cold storage for game is becoming a thing of the past. Used to find it easy 30 years ago. I remember when I lived in Nevada a casino in Elko had a refridgerated semi trailer for guests. If you weren't a guest, a 20 dollar bill got you a spot. Kind of a shame it seems to be hard to find anymore. mtmuley

Ive always cut my own meat, but I will vouch for the owners of Hawley's in Challis. Chris and Dorothy are honest and hard-working people, and that's where I'd be taking my money. I think they bought the company in 2014.

Hawley's Wild Game Processing. 208-879-6945. I haven't lived in Challis for 3 years, but was on the volunteer FD with Chris when he bought the company. He is a stand up guy for sure. My wife and kids knew his wife and kids too. Haven't talked to them since we moved, but I imagine it's still his shop. At any rate, I thought I'd throw his name in as someone I would trust -- because it seems like a big part of the problem people have with meat processors is the feeling of getting ripped off (one way or another).

I'll clear my inbox. Thanks

I know this is a really old thread, but I emailed the General Store in Stanley and they said they do not offer cold storage - I'd be interested if anyone else has found options in the Challis/Salmon area that aren't already mentioned above.

Thanks Greg, have you used them before? They have a FB page with only one review and it was negative.

Yup or maybe it was ‘15. I took an animal there instead of driving to salmon that year. Never again! 215 lbs not incl blackstraps n tenderloins. Got back 75 with those pieces incl in the weight. He was more worried about getting the 4H animals done than wild game. In hindsight I should’ve called F&G when I was there.
