I figured someone on here might have come across what I am looking for, even though it is not a boot for hunting. I have not been able to find much through searches.

I am looking for a boot that has either a composite or steel toe and is stiffer than a normal work boot. Must be at least 8" high. I am doing more chainsaw work on steep slopes restoring goats prairies, glades, and regular work boots are not stiff enough to offer ankle support and let me dig into the slopes.

I tried my Hawthorn fire boots and those are even worse. I am hoping I can return those to find something more of a mountaineering style and fire rated.

Thanks for any info.

I wear Thorogood work boots and have been super happy with them. I believe they make a boot geared towards loggers that would be worth looking at. I think they only do steel toes though. My Rocky's have the composite toes and I'd probably never go back to steel after wearing them, but I haven't been very impressed with my Rocky's as far as boots go.

I was looking for the same type of boot as you and ended up with a boot from Hoffman. It’s not on their website yet. It’s basically Hoffman’s explorer boot with a composite toe. I called up there inquiring about a pair of other boots I was getting repaired and found out about them and he sold me a pair. They’ve been an awesome boot so far! I’ve had them about four months. Kenetrek makes a similar boot (I think it’s their lineman boot) but is more expensive by 100+

Thorogood American heritage. Handmade in America wear in quickly look good have steel or comp toes and can have insulation and or protection for electricity and stuff. They last. I’ve worn mine day in day out for 3 years and theyclean up to look almost new except the sole. Damn near three Hindi new. It you’ll save money on new boots every six months. Best purchase I’ve made period.

They have comp toe too, though idk why you’d prefer it other than weight. Just the boots that have them are like 300 or more since they are also the insulated winters ones that come waterproofed

I'll never wear steel toes in cold weather again after wearing composites. Not sure why someone would want the weight either. There's also the electrical hazard.

About the only benefit I see to steel is that it left a bit of life when I'd wear the toes off when I was a shingler. Pretty rare that OSHA required me to wear boots while shingling though. Usually just wore hiking shoes. Better traction on wet shingles and dusty ice and water shield.

Hoffman boot company, they have meindl safety toe and if you are so inclined they also caulk them. Lots of fallers in BC use them from Hoffman and nobody I know of complains
