Saddle / Lock On pack?

Just curious what pack guys are using for hauling sticks and a platform/lock on to the tree in? Looks like I’ll be moving back to country where that’s how I’ll be hunting. I’ve got a MR Cabinet that I think would work ok, especially if I add two compression straps across the front of the bag and a Pop Up 18 that I think could work with the frame extended. I’ve been considering getting a Pintler bag or a Kuiu 1850/2300 setup…both look like they would be a good tree hunting rig.

Endless threads on this- especially at the saddle hunter forum and at.

That being said your setup dictates so much of it.

Personally I run a MR PU at times (with mini sticks, full length sticks, tree stand or saddle platform) but found myself using a cheap backpack with (taped) caribiners off the stand (like a frame) more and more. It limit the amount of chit I take back with me. I usually run the pack if the set is an unknown or I’m feeling like there will be meat packed out on the way out.

MR Pop Up 28

I tried a few different setups and this is what I'm happy with right now.

I use a Kuiu venture 1800 saddle hunting.

Would love to hear more about your set up. I’ve been eyeing same bag for my set up.

I run a Kuiu pack for western hunting and have liked it so naturally I want to strap my sticks and platform to a Kuiu for whitetail.

Pretty straight forward as far as packing platform and/or sticks. The pack comes with several compression straps that can be configured more ways than I can counts due to having 2 separate rows of what I call mini-molle. Top pocket on the bag works similar to a lid on a big pack. I liked the layout looking at it on line and it has worked as well or better than I expected in use. I have packed a couple of boned out deer plus my saddle gear in one trip. Those deer werent huge though both in the 130-140 range live weight. Much bigger would prolly require 2 trips. It does not carry that sort of weight like a big pack with a frame and load lifters will but it handled it just fine. Monumentally better than dragging or using a cart imo. Also it is small enough to hang in the tree and not be an issue either. My big pack is a Seek and I really like it too but for whitetail hunting, esp with a saddle set up the venture is about as close to perfect as I have seen for me.

I tend to over pack, but I'm using a badlands 2200.

I'm going to use my MR Pop Up 28 this year, should be ideal for the areas I need to get back into

The main reason I llike the 2200 is because you can access the main pocket from the front of the pack (part against your back) if you have stuff tied everywhere on the back you can get in without much hassle. It also has built in straps that work really well at securing your layers, bow, or any gear really hiking in.

If the op is still looking, do a search in the backpacks thread section. I have posted pictures a few times of different packs and frames with stands.

I use a Badlands Superday pack for my saddle setup. Small platform, five fairly short sticks, little cushion pad for my knees, a jacket, and some food seem to fit perfectly. I figure if I have a bigger pack, I might be more likely to bring more junk I don't need.

I’ll put a full pack picture together once I have a few more minutes. Ill
Also put the avail on the x curve frame loaded. This is just the sticks and predator platform on the standard stone glacier avail.

Thanks man. I pulled trigger on one tonight with coupon.

Love my western Kuiu set up so was happy to buy from them again.

I’m running an Exo pack for all my whitetail stuff.
