Anyone use this range finder or know anything good/bad to say about it? Seems like they are on back order.

They’re available on Leupold.com, but it looks like they want MSRP of $700 for it. Not sure when they are available at their retailers.

There is a Nock On podcast with Dudley and Snyder where they talk about rangefinders as well. They both seemed to have good things to say about it.

I saw a pre-order for $550 on Lancaster I believe. Keep in mind that Leopold only warrantied their rangefinders for 2 years. That’s basically 2 week long seasons for a lot of people who go on one trip a year. I had one that stopped giving accurate ranges. It looked brand new and they told me I was SOL. The rangefinder market is stuffed with good rangefinders that have lifetime warranties.

Same experience with them. They don’t stand behind their products. I have had two fail after 3 years of use. Moving on unfortunately.

I guess you can buy a new one every year and then sell it after season but that gets expensive.

I hate to point this out but if Leupold is warranting a rangefinder for 2 years then that's phenomenal because most electronics are 6-12 months from the day of purchase and not the number of uses regardless of company.

I was given for Christmas 2 years ago the RX 1200 and it's been a great unit and if it dies I can't complain considering the amount of use it has given me between 3D and hunting. That being said I would be upset in comparison to what I had before with a 2000 Bushnell 500 that lasted 17 years before I started to have issues.

What 500 dollar range finder has a 2 month warranty? There are plenty of other rangefinders on the market that are in the same class that have better warranties. I don’t understand your post. If I got 17 years out of it I’d be happy as a fly in crap, but unfortunately I got about 10 uses out of it over a few years.

They don’t need to do the vortex over the top no questions asked warranty, but at least warranty your crappy rangefinder again manufacturer defects like reading the wrong range.

If it’s 2 months from purchase I agree. If it was used 2 months out of two years that’s something different. In the two years I have had the RX1200 I have used it more than the bushnell over I would bet at least 7 years because I couldn’t use it in 3D since back then there was no none distance. Then even if it is used little there are other factors like dropping or rain or being stored in a humid place that can effect the internals. That’s why they have a time period. Like I said most electronics are less than a year with most 6 months. It’s also no different than a car or refrigerator warranty. They are based upon time. Sorry yours broke but it happens.

I tried one out at the TAC a couple of weeks ago. I was very excited as I like the idea of integrating Archers Advantage (Yes, I am a geek). I struggled to get accurate readings out of it with lots of cover on the Sitka course (longer shots and many where the target is partially obscured etc ...). I was frequently getting ~10 yard variances trying to range a target. My Nikon had no issues. I believe the difference was the image stabilization SW in the Nikon which makes it easier to settle on a piece of a target a long ways out.

When comparing the Nikon to the RX-4 side to side on steeper sots, I did regularly get ~1.5-2 yds less on the RX-4 and I am assuming the RX-4 was doing a better job of calculating the angle for my bow. The problem is that I'm not good enough on ~80+ yard steep shots to know if it was me or a 2 yard delta in where my arrow landed on the target.

I really wanted to like the RX-4, but based upon my first hand experience, I will pass. The conditions at TAC were realistic what I've seen a lot hunting Elk/Deer in thick cover and for me my trusty Nikon was more reliable. Yes, I did try stabilizing it on my bow / Bino harness etc ... It's almost too sensitive (IMHO). If you added the image stabilization of the Nikon ... I'd buy one!

FYI, the little horizontal line that shows the highest point in your arrows trajectory is pretty cool. I did kneel for a shot as a result! Cool functionality, but not for me until they max it easier to range with accurately.

Fair enough. I get your point. I guess for me, if I can buy a vortex or sig, which are both interchangeable on quality, why would I buy a leupold and to your point, be ok with it lasting 2 years? The old vortex 1000 weren’t on pair, but the new ones are really nice. I’ve never tried sig but I’ve heard enough good things that I would give them a whirl.

If you went to buy a fridge and you found 2 that were nearly identical and one had a 2 year warranty and one had a 10 year warranty, or possibly lifetime, which would you buy?

Lot of talented people are standing by it so far. Typically it is wise to wait a full season to purchase expensive top end equipment to determine if it will last or not.

I'm a bit skeptical due to sponsorship and $ for "reviews" in some of these guys.

Personally, a financial disclosure would seem like good policy. Not every $ amount but a blatant disclosure of "_________ sponsors me with product and financial compensation". At that point, the consumer is free to filter "reviews" appropriately. I don't like that it's all hidden/secretive.

I fully understand the example of the warranty. But in killing an animal I am personally looking for the most accurate whether it has a warranty of 2 years or 10 years doesn’t matter.

I also personally never would have paid what my kids did for this rangefinder but since seeing the difference in performance it was worth the money and if it craps out I will pay up for that performance. Ahh ignorance is bliss! Lol
