Ruger American Predator 6mm CM

I have a Ruger American Predator in 6mm CM with the AI style mags. From day one I had issues with the gun cycling the shell into the chamber from the mag. The shell would go up at too high of an angle to go into the chamber unless the magazine was pulled down against the mag catch. Ruger sent me a new mag to try and it didn’t fix the issue, best they sent me a new mag well with no fix. Ruger then asked me to send the gun in and the replaced the barrel and mag well. I did not get a call from them but they returned it saying they fired 12 rounds with no issues. When I got it back the shell still does not chamber correctly and this time it jams on the mag itself if the mag is not down against the catch. Unless the msg is pulled out against the mag catch it jams. The bolt itself drags hard against the mag with no shells in it. I also can’t insert the loaded mag into the rifle with the bolt closed. Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix. I did order a rotary mag well and mag to try but had to pay for that myself to get this gun to chamber correctly. I realize this is not a high end rifle but I purchased it for my daughter to start hunting with as a starter.

Currently fighting this same exact thing with mine. Would love to find a solution. Mine shoots so dang well... too accurate of a rifle to sell. if anyone on her has figures this out please share your wisdom! About to go down a rabbit hole fixing this!

I took a video of the issue I was having after getting it back for Ruger. I showed the video to the Scheels sales rep who couldn’t believe they sent it back malfunction that way. They allowed me to return the gun for a full refund and I grabbed a Bergara. I handled other RAP rifles on their shelf and the bolt would drag on the magazines on those. I never shot the gun after getting it back from Ruger to know if the new barrel was as accurate. I did order a mag well and magazine for the rotary mag style that I can’t return now, wish they would have told me that they were non refundable when I ordered them.

Im going to attempt to use metal aics magazines and adjust the lips to see if I can fix the feeding. I would consider going to another rifle but honestly the odds of me finding something that shoots this accurate are extremely low. I can run Factory 108 eldms and consistently shoot dime size 3 shot groups or smaller with mine. Luck of the draw, it consistently makes one ragged hole groups.

Mine does this consistently also. But like you said it shoots so good. I'm curious to see if the metal mags work better.

The problem with mine wax the mag well allowed too much play in the mag. If you can find a way to prevent the msg from seating to deep it should work. I was going to try the rotary mag but didn’t want to waste more time with it since I bought it in April and my daughter still hadn’t shot it. Once I was told I could get a full refund and all the RAP on the shelf had the same issue of the bolt dragging on the mag I bailed. My daughter will not be shooting beyond 200 yds so I’m sure the Bergara will be as accurate as she can shoot for now.

Well gentleman GREAT NEWS, for about $15 worth of tools and a metal (308 or 7.62) aics mag($67 new - can usually get them used for about $35 each) we can save our rifles. I ended up needing to squeeze my feed lips in closer just a tiny bit in front and rear (my aics magazine came at a 8mm split, I squeezed them just a hair under 7mm, front and rear, even the whole way down). VERY happy to say I just cycled 100 rounds through the rifle with ZERO malfunctions. Below is a picture of the harbor freight special pliers I used to bend the whole feed lip at once- there are special tools for this but these were cheaper- just make sure you put a layer of electrical tape on them before cranking on the magazine! Also used the harbor freight $2 plastic calipers and they did the job fine. For what it is worth I used the 5 round aics mags because I hunt. But I see no reason why you couldnt do this to any metal magazine that fits the aics pattern!

I would like to say depending on your rifle you may need to open or close the lips more. This is pretty intuitive. Closer lips = round lower in magazine. More open lips = rounds higher in the magazine. Too open in the rear = rounds flying out of the magazine haha. Little adjustments go a long ways!

I had the same problem with my Ruger 6 CM and 6.5 CM. I looked at the mag when seated and could see that the front of the mag wasn’t locking up tight and was riding high in the magwell.

All I did was insert the mag until clicked into place, pull down on the front until the whole mag was parallel with the magwell and marked the front of the mag. I then took a drop of JB Weld, put it on the mark and let it cure.

After the JB Weld cured I inserted the mag to make sure it locked up tight in the front and rear. If there’s too much JB I filed just enough off for it to seat tight and parallel with the magwell.

That simple and easy fix stopped all of my feed issues.

Sad part is we all know what the issue was but Ruger couldn’t figure out a solution. I thought about the JB Weld idea but with my luck it would fail at the worst moment. Not sure how Ruger can’t make the mag wells with a stop at both the front and rear so the mag doesn’t seat too deep. They would have the best shooting rifle under $900 without a doubt.

I sent my RAP 6 Creed back to Ruger 5 TIMES for this issue! They replaced my barrel as well and I haven't had time to mess with it since. I sent them videos of it doing it, and they sent me a video back of their "function test" where the guy was working the bolt like a gorilla. Of course you're not going to notice an issue. Sad deal because my last barrel shot lights out, but I can't risk having it jam on a 9yr old in the field.

I'm going to attempt something like this, but I was thinking about bedding it from inside the mag well so there's a lot more surface contact. Glad to know that general idea works. Winter project.
