I misspoke, I actually shot the gun this weekend, it is not a metal magazine. But it’s the Ruger 10 round AICS pattern, and it shoots very well in the Trybe chassis.

Thinking of picking up a Ranch in 5.56 but it comes with the 10 round mag. Do yall know if there's a more compact mag available for it? I don't really care for how far the 10 round sticks out of a compact rifle.

So I recently picked up a ruger american gen 2 6mm creed for my wife and kids. Have not shot the rifle yet, but I have been tinkering with it, getting it all setup and ready to go. I finally got my scope mounted, timney trigger installed, and got my CB muzzle brake installed for my suppressor. I am excited to see how the rifle shoots.

I am planning to take it out and shoot it this weekend.

Last night I noticed an issue, wondering if anyone else has ran into this?

Last night I decided to load the mag up and see how the rifle feeds. Until now I have not actually chambered a round in the rifle.

The issue I noticed, is when I insert a full mag into the gun with the bolt closed, then try and open the bolt to feed a round. the bottom lug on the bolt hits the shoulder on the case and will not allow the bolt to open all the way. It actually cuts a pretty good divet into the shoulder of the case if you try and work the bolt back and fourth. If I remove the 1st shell from the mag, then the gun seems to feed just fine on consecutive rounds, I only notice it on the first round with a full mag.

This isn't really something I want to have to screw with on the mountain. I plan to reach out to ruger, but figured I would see if anyone else has had this issue and if there is a simple fix.

I just sent mine back to Ruger for a similar issue. Very frustrating for a brand new rifle. It’s a long road to gain confidence back.

A quick update. I got the rifle back. Ruger did some chamber work. I guess the gun is functional so that’s okay. Overall I’m disappointed in this gun. I should have just bought a tikka and been done. How any reviews done on the gun skip over all these issues is concerning.

I love the Americans (Gen 1 and 2), and actually just got one in 6.5 Grendel for a stupid good price. Having owned/shot/been around a few, the only expectation I have of them is to do with accuracy. The stocks are shit, the triggers are manageable, and you gotta work the action like a big girl or it’ll bind up. They’ve all shot well for me and they make a nice beat around gun.

I don’t pick one up and hate it because it’s not what some of my higher priced rifles are. It never will be, and that’s perfectly fine with me

I have the Genn II in 6mm creedmoor, It shoots as good as my Seekins did. I took on 2 hunt hunts so far, not bad to carry with scope and suppressor. Not super light but it's not worth a grand to me to shave a pound. JMHO. It likes 108 hornady's and 100 spbt. I will replace the trigger at some time but for now it works. I used AICS mags while hunting Red sheep no problems, just give them a slap.

Am looking at one to leave at the ranch in AZ seems like a great option, plus I can have a decent threaded rifle and throw a cheap triji on it for under a grand… hard to beat that

Man, this thread is disappointing. I’ve been recommending the American to folks just getting into shooting or looking to upgrade 45 year old guns. This is based on features and reviews as well as my dad’s predator which is a shooter.

I love tikkas and recommend them if they are willing to go through the hoops of getting it threaded etc.. most don’t want to jump in the deep end of the pool and immediately going to gunsmithing is another hurdle.

Have you experienced Berretta "customer service" what a joke. Burned me on tikkas forever.....1:12 twist marked 1:8 with keyholed targets to prove it. They said a gunsmith would look at it in about 16wks after i paid to ship it.

Eurooptic took it back for a store credit and I moved on

I have a gen 1 ruger 300blk that shoots 1/2" on a good day. Stock is garbage and the zipper bolt is less than comforting but it shoots. I will buy another for its intended purpose

I have used Beretta with no issue but do know they aren’t not great with service. The fact that there is no shortage of complaints about the Ruger should say something. You listed short falls recognizing a less than acceptable product.
Let’s just be truthful. The Ruger is a poor design that may have a decent barrel. The overall experience is lacking.

I have four Ruger Americans, now. I have two 1st Gen (.300 Blk and .450 BM) and two Gen IIs (5.56 and .350 L). They are all Ranch rifles with suppressors. They all shoot great!

I have several rifles that are lighter, better looking, feed & function more smoothly, and just all-around feel better. Unfortunately, they were all more expensive and don't shoot nearly as well. I take my Ruger Americans to the range more often, these days, because accurate rifles are a lot more fun to shoot.

What do you expect? This is a Tikka friendly forum. Tikka finally started threading the barrels - guns start at $1,000-$1,100 w threads.

Guy at BPS was pushing the Tikka brand hard showed me a $1350 rifle and an $1100 rifle. Told me RAR is no good.

He did have the $600 RAR G2 Predator in my caliber - which was one of 3 i wanted to see in the first place so i got the RAR G2 and am happy with it - no buyers remorse after reading how good Tikka is. If it is anything like my RAR G1, will shoot sub-moa and kill stuff.

Havent loaded it yet. Bolt works fine at this point, 2 stage safety is nice, feels balanced, trigger is crisp guessing 3#. Like the threaded barrel. From what i see and feel, they improved the G1.

Consumers need to adjust expectations based on price and what they want. Aint nothing wrong with the design or gun. It is the consumer who buys a Kia and expects a Cadillac. Or the consumer told to expect a Cadillac by someone later on.

Ruger guns have always been middle of the road stuff but shoot well. They give us what we pay for.

This is incorrect. They actually start at $750ish so the price delta between the two is much less. IMO, you get a substantially better gun for not a lot more money with the Tikka. The rugers are fine for what they are. I had a gen 1 and sold it but it was a decent shooter although the mags, trigger, and stock sucked.
