Rowing Machine Recommendations

Every single rowing club, at every school across the country, is 100% using Concept 2 ergs. Every training center, every boathouse. No other model has this much universal implementation across any other piece of equipment that I can recall.

Found a deal for a concept 2 model d. Little older. But the price is right.

Know it is 14inch clearance not 20. I'm 6'2

Any issues you can think of?

Your height should be fine, rowers are very tall.

Check the mechanism is smooth, nothing feels like it's grinding.

The computer on the older ones can fail, it's a few hundred dollars to replace and they're not easy to find.

I've had a Concept2 rower for 10 years. No issues, operates just as smooth as the first day I bought it. Only have to replace the battery on the display.

It's worth buying the iPad display for it. For longer, steady-state rowing sessions it's clutch to be able to watch something.

My Concept C rower monitor died and I called the factory and bought a new model one and I'm still rowing just fine after 20 years.

I have a concept and love it, but I am interested in the rogue echo since it folds really quick for storage.

Figured I'd update.
Thz for the recs everyone.

Picked up a 7year old concept 2 for 300 bucks. Pretty low meters on it to boot. Wife loves it, 3 year old has even gotten into it. And I'm digging it as a change up to mix into the running/rucking routine.

For something different: Other than the concept 2, which is the gold standard and an excellent rower… if you want to fork out the money and you’re into something fancy, the peleton row is great. I was resistant for a long time but my wife got the bike and we ended up getting a rower too since we were already paying for the subscription. I use it more than I thought I would and the classes are actually pretty good. Nice way to cross train.

I have used a Concept 2 a ton at the gym. I bought a used Waterrower for the house. MUCH MUCH prefer the Waterrower. Smoother, quieter, much more similar to actual rowing in water (because you are).

I would not want a loud ass Concept 2 at the house where you might want to watch tv or something during long sessions.

And the Waterrowers just look and sound fricking amazing.

Go with the Concept 2. They are well built, and will last a long time. Just do the basic maintenance and occasional firmware updates and you are good. The logbook app will track everything for you and you can add in Strava if you want. You can also get a chest strap heart rate monitor and pair it to the machine.

I’m about to hit 6 million meters on my c2. I get on it at least 3 days a week but usually shoot for 50k/week.

I’ve had several stretches over the past few years where I was doing fairly high volume rowing. At one point I was doing close to 100k/week on it. I’d do it in the mornings and most evenings.

Right now I’m focusing on kettlebell stuff so I just row like 10k tempo, 3x5k easy and then one day will be a 2k warmup then 6-10x500s all out. For a 3 day/week routine.
