The R700 isn’t surprising at all. There is no across the board true “drop in” due to the wildly different manufacturers of actions. The Tikka should be correct. Because I can not remember- do the RokStoks come with aftermarket action screws? If so, and even if they don’t- can you measure the functional length of them with factory if you have some.

Do you know if these measurements are within or outside the known or suggested tolerance range of the Rokstok?

Maybe not easy but it would fix most of the inlet problems.

Again, this isn’t a rampant issue. I have seen and installed a bunch of RokStoks- one had a potential inlet issue and 30sec with a hand file had the problem solved.

Absolutely. The base problem is consumers do not have realistic expectations. There is no such thing in stocks as “drop in”- if you want the fit to be perfect. The best that can be hoped for is that most are good enough to be acceptable, and very few need a bit of work to fit well.

That seems reasonable as long as that is what was advertised to people when they were buying them.

It’s not advertised or not- it’s reality of all aftermarket stocks. They are all mass produced items and there are tolerances in everything. When you mass produce there are going to be combinations that land on the ends of the bell curve.

I can attest to that, in my time I have bought "drop ins" from Bell & Carlson, Ultradyne, Boyds, H-S Precision, and had issues with fitment (minor) on all of the Remington 700's I have owned, and even TC Encore (had to have an extra washer on the rear stock screw so you could cock it). My Ultradyne chassis was the closest I will say. But, I never expect a stock to fit without some tweaking. It may just be the times we live in, but they used to say in the fine print, "to be installed by a competent gunsmith"? LOL well I aint competent but did sleep at a Holiday Inn one time, lol so what ever I screw up, is on me. I have had to grind down bolts, get longer bolts, add washers, sand out a channel etc. etc. To ME, it is just expected, for what I am paying for and not paying for.

Sure I think so too. The issue, is that people then wouldn’t buy the product because other companies claim “drop in”. It’s a fixed game in some aspects.

When they were first pitching the Rokstok they were saying that they were fixing a lot of mistakes they perceived other stock companies made. Im not sure what all of those issues were. It just sounds like some customers are not informed properly.

I've only had one stock drop in and fit perfectly and that was a McMillan that was spec'd specifically for my action. I've spent more time than I'd like to admit on tinkering with 3 manners stocks. I have to hand sand every one of them for bolt sweep, and then dremel some out to work with a hawkins hunter bottom metal. You know what will really piss you off? Taping and spray painting a stock you just spent $1200 on.

I think @Nine Banger is dead nuts on. We've empowered an era of bolt action legos when tolerance stacking is a thing and there's truly no set standard. I've filed action screws, hogged out inlets and barrel channels, this isn't a plug an play game by any means. If you can't problem solve, then I'd suggest sticking with factory options or paying someone to do it for you. Yes it sucks but it's just part of the game. However, sometimes, things just get messed up.

All this said, I've still yet to get my email about my lefty coming in and because I'm talking shit I'm sure I'll get to play around with mine now.
