IMG_0716.jpegAny clues as to why this would start happening after the switch. I’m beating my head against a wall trying to sort this out.

I'd say there is stress in the action between the screws(this would also stress your scope tube when the actions torqued), or possibly a pressure point between front action screw and barrel somewhere. Have you checked free float? When installing action screws, leave rear screw out, install front screw and bring to torque. Now install rear screw, slowly screw in and bring to torque. If the inletting is off, the rear screw will catch tension and start loading before its tight and goes to torque.

Free float is great even if I flex the stock there is still enough to free float. It does sit on top of the recoil lug but UM said that’s normal and not an issue. I’ll try that action screw sequence and test.

What do you mean "on top of the recoil lug"? As in the recoil lug isn't sitting in the notch in the action?

I had a similar change in group size after putting mine on because of recoil lug issues, had to bed it. Groups well now. Some of these stocks are plug and play, some definitely aren’t

If the action rocks back and forth/pivots on the recoil lug then that is not normal. Bedding should fix it, as mentioned above

It makes contact with the lug when torqued down but also appears to make contact with the bedding area. Sorry, I’ve showed this here before but thought I’d add the group results I’m seeing as well.

Was yours a tikka? My recoil lug is in there so tight there is no force that can remove it without destroying the stock or the lug. It doesn’t budge in any direction. Bedding without removing the lug seems tricky.

Yes. If you can't remove the lug, you should send it back to UM.

Your Tikka’s recoil lug slot, when the action is fully torqued into the stock, should only contact the front of the recoil lug. The top and the back of the recoil lug should have no contact with the action. Im not a gunsmith but this is how I understand them to work.

That’s how I understand it as well but when I showed UM the play dough picture they said it was normal contact
