RokStok

Woody went 4 for 4 in the Rokslide Cold Bore Challenge as of this morning.

Shots were prone off pack/molinator with light filled rear bag.

Seated with long Spartan bipod and backpack for rear support.

Kneeling on pack, belly on rock, bino harness removed from chest for rear rest to get enough angle, light filled rear bag slid over barrel and fore-end for front support.

And finally, prone off of pack turned 90 degrees to get low enough angle, light filled rear bag.

And on the way down the mountain two off hand shot kills at 85 and 55 yards.

It is stupid how easy these stocks are to drive from any shooting position.

Which caliber were you using this time around? I know you have like 7 rokstock combos at this point

I figured and fully support. Just don’t want MRC to catch undue criticism.
That’s why I was sure to include in the post that it was a Winchester Model 70. I didn’t want any negativity pointed MRC’s way, as I have never had an experience with anything to do with MRC.

Also no negativity towards Unknown and Stockys. The minor fitting needed is typical with most custom stock makers. Im very pleased with quality and finish of this Rokstock. I can’t wait to get a new barrel spun up on the rifle and head to the range

Rock on. First one I’ve seen!

I’m itching to get my 22 creed out
After a full year of use, and the job it did on 13 big game animals last season including moose, elk, whitetail, mule deer, and bear… I really don’t see myself killing too many animals with anything other than the 22 Creed. I know I still will, but it will be my go to gun for the foreseeable future on most my hunts.

So last year alone you had more experience with more species than I ever will. I’ve killed deer and smaller since 2009 or 10 with a 22-250AI 75amax 3,350. Waiting on a replacement barrel for it from Lilja to send to Karl for a 22creed. I said all that to ask your opinion on 80 Eldx vs 88 eldm? Did you find the 80’s to shoot better perform better or 80’s done so well you never bothered to change when you had a good thing? Thanks.

I’m curious about this too. I just got my 22 cm the 88 didn’t group great the first go around. Considering the 80 or just going with some 77 tmks

22 creed is hard to beat

Nice! Yeah those were just the 22CM 80 ELDX kills from last year. I also had my first 8 .223 kills using 77 TMKs and a few other cartridges throughout the year. Plus some 88 and 80 ELDM kills from the 22 creed.

Karl is a great choice and a great guy. Top notch work.

All of my Tikka 22 Creeds using Tikka stainless barrels and a McGowen stainless barrel have all shot the 77 TMKs and 88 ELDMs the most “accurately”. Right at 1 MOA or slightly better for 10 shot 100 yard groups.

The 80 ELDXs, in my experience so far, are particular on barrel and speed for how they “group”. Some lots shoot around 1 MOA. Some lots have been double that or more.

My current 80 ELDX lot of hand loads is very accurate in the McGowen barrel. It shoots 1” groups without me even really trying to “shoot for tight groups”. The 80 ELDXs also seem to have a bit higher velocity spread than the 77 TMKs and both 80 and 88 Ms.

On game, the 88 and 80 Ms generally work fine in what I and others have observed. There have been instances of narrow wounds and less than ideal performance on game. Similar to what I’ve seen from 108 Ms versus the 103 ELDXs.

These “downfalls” are not observed in 80Xs or 77 TMKs. They have both consistently upset and reliably killed in what I’ve seen so far.

The compromise for “accuracy” generally is negated by the shooter anyway and the 77 TMKs have done nothing but hammer in all the guns I’ve shot with 22 Creeds.

Because I am a “long range hunter” I appreciate the BC gain from the 80 Xs over the 77 TMKs otherwise I would just shoot the 77 TMKs honestly.

I do get around 150 extra yards of “killing range” out of the 80 ELDXs versus the 77 TMKs but keep in mind that this is from 800 yards to 950 yards. Those shots are very rare.

I do also have a better wind gun with the 80s over the 77s but that’s also almost always negated by the shooter and not the “BC” anyway.

You could probably look at hit probability in a 10 MPH 90 degree wind with my 77 TMK load versus my 80 ELDX load and see there is minimal difference inside of somewhere around 600 yards.

So yeah… 80 and 88 Ms will kill. 80 Xs and 77 TMKs will kill. I’d honestly shoot what your gun shoots the best and hunt on 👍🏻

I love my 6.5 PRC but I don’t see myself hunting with it this year at all now that I have the 22 creed. East coast white tail I’m using the 223 as well- mostly because it’s cheap and I know shots aren’t really long enough to matter.

but having both of those takes care of all my needs

Thank you. Back when they started phasing out the 75 amax I don’t really know how many I bought up. Silly me they were just replacing it with a little better bullet haha. So I have never used anything else(for the most part some 62x’ swif 75’s and 75bthps) in fast twist 22’s other than the 75 amax until the 88’s came out. I shoot them in a 1-7 Montana. I never bothered to shoot the 88’s in the 22-250AI and just kept with the 75’s until the barrel gave up. Sounds like I should try some 80 eldx when it’s done. We shoot a lot of deer (not in the hundreds like some) on crop damage tags so that makes for good test media.

Yea Karl is a fine fella to talk to and does great work. I’ve never met him personally but he’s done a good job on anything I’ve sent him over the years.

Posting another 2c of my results. The Rokstok made a fairly noticeable difference in shootability of my iron sight .308 Drover.

I had about 100rds down the tube of this rifle with a factory laminate stock, and at 6.5lbs with 147 and 168gr loads, it was less than pleasant (despite the copious recoil pad on the factory stock). Switching to the Rokstok changed the game. I put 40rounds through it last weekend from the Rokstok, and it’s quite comfortable with the same loads. Putting a suppressor on will be icing on the cake, but this is a totally changed rifle. I went from “meh, will probably sell this” to “this is awesome” with two screws and some nail polish.

What color combinations are there?

Left the textured grip areas unpainted, the rest is whatever H-series # called ‘Smoked Bronze’ (diff than burnt bronze). Was trying to match the Nightforce FDE and think it got pretty darn close

Looks great! I might have to copy that combination. How worried are you about the unpainted areas? Does it wear any different? I’ve got zero prior experience with these stocks.
