Rokstok review thread

I will add - without any rancor or bitterness - that I only bought the MDT GRND-POD because Alex, the salesman, who no longer works at UM, as far as I know, recommended it as the ideal bipod for my Rokstok with the Trinity rail. If I had bought it from UM, I would have returned it. As it is, I will either use it on another rifle or sell it.

That sucks. As often is the case, salesmen do not intimately understand all the products they sell.

One final question for the group that has used the Rokstock, is there a bottom metal that offers the best compatibility with the Rokstock? I currently have High Desert Bottom metal and the factory plastic.

Curious to know this as well. Has anyone used the Waters rifleman bottom metal? If so, did it require shims?

I'd like to try lumley but it isn't as available as the high desert stuff. I'm just not a fan of having to use all of the shims and how proud the high desert stuff sits in the rokstoks.

I have Lumley DBMs on both my Rokstoks, they are a tight fit but no issues after tapping them in with a rubber mallet the first time.

I had to slightly shorten the magazine catch with a couple file strokes.

My only reason for the replacement was to get an Arctic trigger guard (have one on my T1x as well).

I have not had any issues with the PR Precision stainless steel bottom metal.

Thanks all for the feedback, I'll see how I do with the High Desert and go from there but it sounds like fitment may be better with others.

What mags are you using with your Lumley DBM? I have a Lumley Arctic DBM and I couldn’t get it to work with the Waters mags in either of my Rokstoks.

The Lumley works fine with factory plastic mags, but I had to slam the Waters mags to get them to seat and the mag release was extremely stiff once a mag was seated.

Maybe filing the mag catch like you did would get it to work?

No need to do that most likely though, not when you can just use a small file to adjust the catch on the magazine. I only use one washer, front and back, on my Rokstok with the High Desert. The bottom metal sits nearly flush with the stock. A few minutes with a file on my factory and Waters magazines and they feed & release fine.

I have 5 tikkas and would rather not file away on magazines to play nice with the two that have mediocre stock/bottom metal fit.

I use factory mags, a Waters mag, Mt tactical mags, and the 3D printed Ascension Industries.

The Waters was very tight and I filed a little on the magazine itself. The Mt Tactical would not always lock in, same with the 3D print, so I decided to shorten he mg catch, I think 1 or 2 file strokes did it, not much. Now they all seat and remove well.

If you file too much of the mag catch, then the bolt will not strip a round, so don't take much without checking.

Waters mags often need the mag latch lip filed to work in any stock and bottom metal combination. The lip on the mag is purposely long so that they can be filed to fit correctly.

I have 3 Rokstoks all with Mountain Tactical bottom metal. They all have shim washers front and back and have all had the mag catch filed down. After they've been hand fitted, they work great.
