"Rokslide Classifieds" clogged and cluttered - consider separating?

Maybe it's just a vocal minority that calls out, time and time again, the abuse of the Spirit of the Forum and therefore it's not worth whatever effort it will take to get freeloaders out of here. It's been said here on this thread there's something "in the works" 🍿.

An update on cleaning up this classified mess would be appreciated by a lot of folks at this point.

As well, on a side note the number of posts from FNG's wanting to know how to hunt, is maddening. There's a search function for a reason and I guarantee every single one of them would have every question answered if they would take a look at what's been said instead of starting their own thread every single time. There's not much substance and content is just surface deep and monotonously repetitive in most cases.

I tried to offer a lower but reasonable offer to a guy to see if maybe he would budge, and the sole response back was “no” without even an attempt to negotiate or elaborate. That’s a good indicator that someone is out of touch

Case and point in the above post. Guys doing classifieds don't give a lick about the forum, and then FNG's post about how to call elk when there's more information on calling elk than there would be in the Bible itself about calling elk, if the Bible was written about that. Classifieds are a joke at this point and regular threads offer little to someone who has been hunting 30 years and it's all about folks wanting to come to the west and give it a go, ask what bullet for heaven sake's is adequate (that has been discussed ad nauseum in too many threads to count) to take their game of choice, then wash, rinse, and repeat.

I think the solution to the "clogged classifieds" and the @Ryan Avery post "I ******* hate the classifieds" Is to charge $100/ year to use/look at, the classifieds. Way less clogged & way less problems.
The classifieds now are like quarter beer night at a college bar. You want less trouble think $5 domestics no happy hour. ;)
sad but true!

There's a Bushnell Elite scope at the top of the Optics classified. Bumped three times in the last week. I don't think anybody wants it, it's sad to see this still going on. Guys so intent on selling something that somehow they think no one sees unless it is continually bumped.

It's a WKR, with over 600 posts but the first 5 pages, all but one are all classified posts. I didn't look back further than that. It was sad to see. That person is not a well-known rock slider, that is a well-known seller. That nobody's ever seen the name in discussion.

With the variety of classified posts, mostly WTS with quite a few guns, it's like a private internet shooting store for this person.

Maybe everyone should just make him some low ball offers so he isn’t so excited about the classifieds

How about $190 for that zeiss of yours?

Hey while we're all in here bitching...... I know it will never happen because we are a suppressed minority, but a left handed filter would be sweet like snipers hide has. Just saying.

That's not how you spell "Rokslider"! Any WKR knows that. :ROFLMAO:

I think that with a lot of this it's more about wanting to push it ahead of other potential items, or just getting it in front of as many people as possible. Think about how many people browse the classifieds with no real intent to purchase anything... I work with people who spend a bunch of time on Facebook marketplace with no real intent to purchase... until they do. I browse used boats on there and I'm not in the market at all.

One thing that I do think would be beneficial is removing the rule about talking about price. I dont think it should be done in public, but sometimes people post things and they just have them listed for too much. I don't think a respectful conversation in private maybe keying the seller in would be a bad thing... something like "hey, I might be interested but if you go look on ebay/other threads they have these listed for xxx. At those prices I would be interested"... as a seller I personally wouldn't be upset about that.

The few things I listed recently, I was in between doing other stuff so I did a quick google search on how much these things are new and based my price off that. I got no interest for a week so decided to hit eBay and figured out quickly that I had them priced way high. I'm sure some people seen it and thought I was insane... I wasn't, just made the post fast and didn't realize.

The guys doing it in the way we are discussing, that's all they do is classifieds and bumps. Pathetic content otherwise as a part of the forum. Get an eBay account.

I guess I don’t see the overall issue. I buy and sell a lot of stuff on the classifieds, but I also participate in the other stuff.

If nobody bumped stuff would you scroll thru for a random find?

If you are more purpose shopping and search for a specific item the “bumps” have no impact on you.

I do think there are definitely a bunch of people that are only here for the classifieds. Which is a bummer but I have personally learned to just look past the trolls & classified noobs. Instead of expecting the large group to conform to my views I just mentally filter out what I’m not interested in whether it’s classifieds or regular posts.

The reason the stuff is being bumped repeatedly is it's not selling. A person can do a search for binoculars or scopes, pants, shirts, etc and I find stuff that has been around awhile.

We do actually say to use pm to politely talk about price.
