My kids first buck on the last night of the season. Definitely not the biggest but I guarantee we never forget it.

This is a picture of my daughter packing out her Bull elk. It was our second to last trip as the sun was going down. The final trip would be in the dark. It took us a total of 14 hours for the two of us to get her Bull to the truck. It was straight down and straight up to get to it. My daughter held her own and then some. She was able to harvest it on the last day of our 7 day hunt.

I have a few dozen pictures of her Bull, a big beautiful 6 point. This was not her first Bull but by far it was definitely her biggest.

My daughter picked this picture to submit. I was a bit surprised. I thought she would be choosing a picture with herself and the Bull.

This picture represents, to me as a father, what an elk hunt truly means. It's about the hard work and determination you put into the hunt. It's about the experience. It's being out in the wilderness. It's about the time you are able to spend together as a father and daughter. It's about the memories.

My daughter and I have been hunting together since she was 12 years old.

I look at this picture and realize my 17 year old daughter is now a young woman.

Great job getting your daughter out there. Sounds like you've made some memories she'll cherish forever. Quick question out of curiosity, is there a reason you pack the lower leg/hoof out? I always cut it off at the knee and leave that part with the carcass to save weight but maybe I'm missing out on something and I don't know it.

Good question. There is a local taxidermist that uses a hoof and hide to make a bottle decanter. I kept the hoof on to have him make one for her.
