This is a picture of my daughter packing out her Bull elk. It was our second to last trip as the sun was going down. The final trip would be in the dark. It took us a total of 14 hours for the two of us to get her Bull to the truck. It was straight down and straight up to get to it. My daughter held her own and then some. She was able to harvest it on the last day of our 7 day hunt.
I have a few dozen pictures of her Bull, a big beautiful 6 point. This was not her first Bull but by far it was definitely her biggest.
My daughter picked this picture to submit. I was a bit surprised. I thought she would be choosing a picture with herself and the Bull.
This picture represents, to me as a father, what an elk hunt truly means. It's about the hard work and determination you put into the hunt. It's about the experience. It's being out in the wilderness. It's about the time you are able to spend together as a father and daughter. It's about the memories.
My daughter and I have been hunting together since she was 12 years old.
I look at this picture and realize my 17 year old daughter is now a young woman.
My 8 year old son's 1st hunt ever and 1st animal ever, shot in December. He learned a few lessons on this day; to shoot or not to shoot the first deer you see (doe), importance of keeping magnification low when stalking for a buck that suddenly appears, and the 4th firearm safety rule (know target and beyond). Finally, on his fourth deer encounter of the morning he made it happen with a 65 yard standing shot with perfect placement. He may have set the bar a little high for the upcoming years though.
My son's first buck. He came in chasing a doe. My son's adrenaline was through the roof when he came right under us and popped out at 15 yds. He killed a cow elk in AZ, but this was the hunt of the year for us!
I absolutely love this contest. My fav to scroll through and see all those smiling faces and the future of hunting. Good on all the dads, moms, grandaps, uncles, aunts, big brother/sister and friends etc who take these kids hunting.
Contest is closed to new entries, @nodakian will start the voting process for the finalists soon
