I've heard that pieces of Irish Spring soap under the hood and under the seats and dash inside will keep the rodents away.
I was told the same thing and put Irish Spring soap bars in my camper one winter. I've got pictures somewhere of the aftermath but the mice around me must be different, they ate the bars of soap. Kind of like a snack to them.

It’s magically delicious. Oh wait… that’s Lucky Charms. What was the Irish Spring tag line? “Smells manly! But oy Loike et two!”

I grew up on a wheat farm where mice were just absolutely rampant. No amount of poison or traps could possibly keep them out of everything we had. The very best thing we ever found was leaving a stereo playing 24/7 in our shops and sheds and what a difference it made. No more nests and the mice and rats both stayed out. You could probably find a cheap battery radio and try something similar
