Hello ,
I bought a HMR Wilderness Carbon in 6.5 prc for my kids. I personally only archery hunt, but help others on rifle hunts. I really don’t know what brand of scope to buy, Leupold, Nightforce, or Ziess. I’m looking for something with a power around 4-20 or similar with a 50mm objective minimum but not as big as 56mm. I would like to keep the price around $2K or under . What would you all recommend. I want something easy for my kids to get behind and acquire a sight picture fairly easily. Thanks

I recommend a Zeiss Conquest V4 in 4-16x44 with a Z-Plex reticle. They run about $1K

It’s a basic second focal plane duplex reticle that will be easy for kids. The Zeiss duplex is a little finer than the duplex in the Leupolds, but not too fine.

I bought a 6.5 cm for my kids and put a break on it to reduce recoil. Mission accomplished right.. Nope.. the pressure and absurdly loud firing made it less than ideal for my kids. I never let them shoot it. I now have bought them a tikka .223 I am currently modifying to make it a much more enjoyable experience.

-Cut to 16” to lighten and make suppressor friendly
-Swfa 3-9ffp as I don’t believe you need high magnification to shoot normal hunting distances. 6X works at 600 and so on.
-cut the stock to 10” lop
-AB warthog suppressor- my hearing sucks if you want them to enjoy shooting and protect their ears this is the only way!

I currently am a fan of the SWFA 3-9 FFP and maven 2.5-15 FFP RS1.2. I could explain why but search them on here and you will see why these products are used by alot of Roksliders. Best of luck! with kids it’s hard to figure out what is the perfect fit. I personally believe they need to practice a lot and that requires something they can handle well.

Details on scopes (ie why swfa or nightforce):

For the kid aspect:

Thanks for your input folks. I went and looked through a VX5 4-20x52 with firedot I think that might be the ticket. Also my kids shoot a 22 and and 243 with a scope pretty well. Just moving them up to a bigger caliber for larger game, but with a decent scope is what I was going for. I plan on getting a suppressor and eventually reloading with the help of some friends, this stuff is a rabbit hole worse than archery .
