I recently bought a Zeiss V6 3-18x50 . I mounted it on a 280AI. That scope is crystal clear (for my old eyes), dials reliably and just comes up to the eye nicely. It has become one of my favorite optics. If you can find one that's up for sale, it would be in your price range.
