Rifle recommendations

I find this to be the complete opposite of what I hear and read. One of the best things about recent Winchester Model 70s has been their consistent accuracy across the board. The shops I’ve been in and the folks who have them all say the M70 barrels are as accurate as high-end custom barrels costing as much as the entire rifle.

I’ve owned or been around over a dozen M70 rifles built since FN took the reins and all have easily been MOA or better with factory ammo right out of the box. I have never heard or experienced anywhere near that type of accuracy with a Ruger 77 of any flavor.

Sample size of 1 but my FN Model 70 prints more half MOA 5 shot groups than not. During load development MOA was about as bad as it ever shot a load.

I have a Winchester 70 Extreme Weather that I purchased last year. It has shot all 6 types of ammunition I’ve tried in both 165 and 180 grain sub moa with boxes of Nosler AB within .5 moa. The fit and finish is excellent and durability seems great so far. The controlled round feed has been flawless despite the steep shoulder of 300wsm and the 3 position safety is very safe with a tactile definitive switch to fire. The bolt does have some vertical play in the locked position and the Bell and Carlson stock leaves a little to be desired. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this rifle.

The Remington Model Sevens in the 1995-2005 vintage were very fine rifles. I'm curious as to why you're stuck on 6.5 Creed? There are many other calibers that would be great for your sons. My kids grew up shooting a Ruger Model 77 SS Compact in .243 and have taken dozens of deer with it. My 19-year-old daughter still uses it. I know the 6.5 is hot right now, but be careful of that koolaid. It's a satisfactory round, but the .243, .260 and 7mm-08 are more readily available in compact rifles.

I'm not looking for compact models. 12yo has a 223 and 243 T3x lite compact already. He proficiently shoots steel to 300 yards standing and is big enough to go elk hunting with me now. I figured it's time to step it up a little and 6.5 seems like a good fit for him in both the recoil and range departments.
My older son (16) currently hunts with his 308 or 270 depending on the situation. He's getting one just for poo and giggles. It's a fun caliber to shoot and I already have semiautos in that flavor so a couple of bolt guns will fit right in.

something to consider is quality factory ammo availability and cost. yes, the 6.5cm is capable but it is also more available than the aforementioned chamberings and at a lower price point. if you have time to reload then it's not that big of a deal.

I'd say the 6.5 Creedmoor is here to stay, after 12 years on the market it is still going very strong & hasn't slowed down at all. One of these day's I'll get one, maybe as a gift for my boy's when they outgrow what I have for them now. Seems like a solid deer/elk rifle.

Ryan Kleckner on this Video @ 11:10 stated that SOCOM has adopted the 6.5 Creedmore & they are even producing belt fed machine guns that accept it. Being a Marine sniper he was hesitant about it for a long time but finally realized it's not going anywhere.

I can't wait for some cheap mil spec ammo to become available. Shooting it out of an M1A costs over hundred dollars per drum

Just a thread update. So I waited for black Friday/cyber Monday hoping I could catch a deal on purchasing two rifles. No dice, nobody was offering chit on the Hawkeye predators. Ordered them today, should be here in a week.
