Rifle Lost in Shipping - Who Eats It?

All “weapons” are technically prohibited. There’s quite a few threads on archerytalk of accounts being suspended for bow sales. What’s your usual payment method? I like PayPal because you atleast have a chance of getting your money back as opposed to Venmo or money order where you’re screwed. Although I think this forum and ar15 has a lower risk of being screwed by the seller

only “controlled weapons” which bows are not as far as I can tell (ie; you can get one shipped to your front door, you can walk in-out of a store with no questions) Bows should be good.

when I purchase I do a postal money order. I’m glad PP has worked for you, I know I don’t have the same luck. And I would bet my next paycheck if you tell PP you want to file a claim for a rifle that it wont turn out well

There is still hope. A lot of shipping is sloooow right now. I personally can't stand the USPS. I have had terrible luck with them. Not to long ago a package made it across the country to about 20 miles from my house. Next thing I know it's in Pittsburg Pennsylvania . Of course the USPS couldn't give an explanation why. Just recently I bought something from a guy in Wisconsin . After it left Wisconsin the tracking showed nothing for six days until it got to its next stop, Detroit. I could keep going but you get the idea.

I had a couple checks mailed on 4-3 and received 1 of the 3 as of today. They were all from a long time customer so I know they went out then. USPS is slower than crap right now.

Everybody who said I'll just have to be more patient was right - the trackiing re-appeared this morning - day 7 since the last scan. Now it's 110 miles closer, at my local facility.

Yesterday the sender went to his post office to see if he could talk to a person instead of a recording. As expected, the clerks don't have access to any better information than we do with a tracking number. However, she did say that a "Missing Mail" claim on their website definitely gets the boss's attention, and that there are many delays right now, so it was good to talk to a person. She also said that a missing firearm or dangerous good gets even more urgent search.

So he used the "Missing Mail" claim yesterday, and today the package re-surfaced. We'll never know if the claim had anything to do with it, or if was going to show up anyway.

Its' "out for delivery" to the FFL now.

Never use USPS. If they lose something, they totally gouge you on the insurance claim and use a crappy depreciation calculation.

not the first time "firearm" is mentioned and all of a sudden the tracking starts moving again lol. Glad to hear its resolved without a actually lost firearm.

i got lucky once, sent my stock 700 out to be accurized, dropped into a chassis, bed a rail and put the scope on since it was already in the shop and they would do it free. because I already owned the rifle it was sent direct to me signature required..... Get the notice at noon delivered, open the email and check, its definitely not my signature and im like WTF head home and luckily it was sitting there.

Bought a bow and it's doing the same thing now. One scan and just saying -
Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility.

Hopefully it reappears.

Just in case anyone is reading this thread down the road, I had an issue years ago. Sender ended up contacting the state attorney general and postal inspector. Also filed a stolen report with local PD. I ended up getting paid for the gun by the sender and he got the insurance proceeds eventually. I have a copy of the PD report and other paperwork in case that gun ever shows up in the wrong hands.

I shipped a rifle that dropped off the radar screen last week. This time 3 days. Same message "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility"

I flied a "Missing Mail" mail claim and the tracking scan came back on the radar the next day, then rifle was delivered the day after that. Again, I have no idea if my claim had anything to do with it.

I bought a rifle off of GunBroker, said the same thing "In transit" took 3 weeks to get it from the other side of the country.

USPS just totally sucks. Amazon used to do UPS which was really good but now they use USPS for parcels (my orders anyway). I had major problems with my orders last week and cancelled them all. Bass Pro uses Fed Ex and that has been really good this week. Walmart has been using UPS and they have been delivering well also.

Glad you finally got your firearm, that is everyone's nightmare....to lose a firearm in shipment.

The shipping company is liable but only if the proper amount of insurance was purchased by the sender. Why would it be the senders fault? Glad to see you finally got the gun.

I do a lot of buy/sell/shipping up in BC. Up here once a person buys the rifle its his. If a rifle is lost during shipping its on the buyer. My rifles are sold/shipped without without insurance unless the buyer requests it during the deal/negotiation. Now if a rifle was lost I would probably offer to split the cost of the loss. The insurance is actually pretty cheap.
