I think a 6.5 grendel in an ar platform is the ultimate coyote gun. Definitely prefer an AR platform whatever the cartridge for follow up and running shots. Used a .223 for years and really like the 6.5 after making the switch
I ran a Grendel for years and loved it. I had a itch to move to a longer range coyote gun 6mm creed. Both guns are awesome for dogs.

I recently picked up a 22-250 700 with a heavy barrel. Worked up a load, and that rifle is a shooter. Also have a Daniel Defense .223/5.56 that likes a 75gr bullet. Think both style rifles work well.

for the money its tough to beat the accuracy of an H&R single shot in .223 or .243
they can be bought for sub $250 and are tack drivers. Only downside is that they are single shot

I do ADC work on ranches and am switching from a 22-250 bolt to a AR in 6.5CM cuz one property owner watched me call in 5 yotes and only kill one. (((sigh)))

If you're on a budget? Get a bolt gun with a nice Blade-style Accu-Trigger style trigger and a inexpensive synthetic stock. That way you can not feel bad at all about custom camo painting it to match your other gear and environment.

I am a huge fan of the 6.5 Grendel. I have been running one for years now and this is one of my favorites that have built. This is my setup for daytime coyote control. I have a thermal that I will put on top during season for nighttime hunting and have quite a few kill videos on YouTube channel. Just an overall great cartridge BC wise.

Have you had problems tearing them up? As long as I stay off the shoulder it's usually tiny entrance hole with no exit. My experience is that it's more the bullet choice than the caliber when it comes to pelt damage or lack there of imo.
What 77gr bullet are you referring to?

I went from bolt to ar back to bolt.. something about an ar with a full mag just begs to be dumped and somehow no fur on the ground

I’d get a ruger American in whatever flavor of caliber you want unless you have an extra 2 Benjamin’s in which case I’d say spend it on a tikka the difference is better than 200 dollars worth.

I'm really enjoying my 22 creedmoor. Light recoil, good speed, heavier bullets and can still handle a deer easily if need be.

I'm set up with a bighorn/zermatt origin action with a 20" 1in8 spun by straight jacket armory. I thread on an omega 300 to the end of the barrel and it sounds nice too.

Finally got everything done to the .22 nosler that I think I’m going to go. Wish I would have gone .243 or 6mm creedmore knowing what I know now but what do you do

Nice setup. Why do you wish you would have gotten a 243 or 6mm creedmoor over the 22 nosler.

It’s difficult to find ammo and it’s been the most finicky caliber I’ve ever dealt with. Lots of tuning and testing to get it cycling consistently. 6mm and 243 both shoot flat also and I could at-least find some components. I didn’t go large frame strictly because of the noise but now that my form 4 is approved that’s not so much of an issue

Why were you thinking about 243 vs something like 223 or 22 250

I went nosler over the .223 because of the speed. It’s much faster out of the same length barrel, and I should be getting some really good speed out of the hand loads my buddy is making. 22-250 would be good also, I just don’t see the ammo around here very often. My buddy reloads for me but I don’t want to bank on that and .22 nosler being such a boutique caliber made me realize why I should have went with something more readily available. 22-250 is probably a better choice than a .243 for coyotes, but I know a bunch of guys running the .243 and it’s very proven around here.
