Lots of guys hunt a whole lot different then myself.. but the difference between a 6.5 bullet and a 308 Bullet is like saying a stack 6 dimes is way bigger then a stack of 5 dimes..
Dime is 1.35mm thick and 35grains.
But as for a custom, unless you are really chasing ballistic unicorns, a stock swap on a factory gun shooting quality ammo is Tough to beat.
6.5 creedmoor 147gr can be bulk bought for 1$ a round..
Hitting stuff with your first shot at some percentage of a half mile requires a lot more then a fancy rifle and high quality glass.. especially under duress, not rear bagged and prone. ‘Ol mr Murphy will get ya at your weakest skill set.
Got No use for 26” barrel plus brake..
4000ft lbs or a rear bag.
Bullet intersecting within .2 mils of point of aim?
That’s a good place to be. And it’s pretty tough to buy that skill set outside of popped primers.
Have never wished for a heavier rifle after 8,000ft of elevation gain/loss day
Never wished for a longer rifle sidling under a cliff face with 2000ft under my toes.
Never wished for a longer rifle busting through the alders, or monkey scrub.
Never wished for more recoil lining up for an off position shot at 300 yards.
Never wished that I could get less shots from a pound of powder, or have a barrel burn up faster.
As for the merits of a 300.. I’ve seen big ass Kodiak bears bang flop from a bonded bullet, and an eland take 4 perfect shots and literally drop 3 specks of blood and stay on it’s feet for 15 minutes.
The 300 win mag has its place, a one gun it is not
