Sessions doesn't do his own flying and pilots do not like working with him, and are said to be jumping ship after this year so sessions will try working with another pilot (I heard possibly Ram or their affiliate pilot in '25). Renfro has this dialed in and has many plane options himself for logistics. His areas have abundant moose and the cost is said to be worth it. I've flown with him since inception roughly 20 years.

I've flown with Renfro for moose hunts each year for the past 10 years, and will be flying with him again this September. I've also flown with Renfro for a half-dozen remote 10-day fly-fishing floats. We always bring our own gear and food for each adventure, and we have always gone unguided. I am truly and totally thankful for each and every adventure that I have done with Renfro.

Reading all this has me wanting to scratch an itch…. Two seasons in lower 48 about all I can take. Going Indiana whitetail this fall, and a Europe stag hunt in 25. Really want to come up with cheap way to do AK moose for 26. A ways off, but I’m tossing some ideas around. All involve a by-the-hour charter flight and rental gear.

I’m not sure there is such thing as cheap moose hunting anymore. Maybe there is, but i’d be leery of cheap. The most expensive transporters can’t meet the demand. Tons of research started in ‘21 on my part for my ‘26 hunt, lots of phone calls, and I came to the conclusion that cheap just doesn’t exist if you want a quality experience with people you can trust. Took me almost two fulls years from starting researching to booking. YMMV. Good luck!

From what I can tell, people don’t care who flys them in as long as they get a spot. Not sure what everyone’s vetting process is, but safety record seems to be somewhere towards the bottom. It’s nothing to joke about, but over the last decade Renfro has had more crashes than Bitcoin.

Make your own decisions. Once is often considered an accident in the world of aviation. After that, various other no so forgiving definitions are used.

I will say a pilots safety record was not on my vetting process when I was looking. After my hunt last year, a safety record will be part of my proccess from now on. Landing on ridge tops is not an easy deal.
