I've got a remington model 1100 20ga that is built on the 12ga frame, serial number ends in X. I know a 12ga butt stock will fit the receiver, but I'm assuming the barrel channel of a 12ga forend will be too large and probably require some fabrication to make it fit/function properly. Anybody have any experience fitting a 12ga forend aftermarket synthetic stock onto one of these late 60's early 70's 20ga 1100's?

Why not just buy the correct stock for it?
Are you aware of a synthetic stock that fits a 20ga 1100 that is built on the 12ga frame? If so, I'd appreciate a link, because as far as I can find, they do not exist. As I stated, the butt will fit the same on this 20ga as it will on a 12ga, but the barrel contour of the forend that comes with the butt stock will have a 12ga contour rather than a 20ga.

If Remington says that they don’t offer a set, why not buy it individually? If the 20ga buttstock won’t fit, buy the 12ga buttstock and a 20ga forend.

The 20ga forends available aren't made for the 12ga receiver, so either way, from my understanding, I'll have to fiddle with the forend.

I’d just call Remington. I’ve had good luck doing that.

Remington confirmed that they do not have a forend for this 1100 configuration. My options are to either dremmel a 20ga forend to fit the receiver or use arcglass/bedding compound to build the barrel channel out to fit a 20ga contour on a 12ga forend, neither option is very appealing.

I think you've stumbled into an opportunity to buy a new shotgun. You could get a 20 that carries like a 20, or a 12 that hits like a 12.

Indeed. Out of curiosity, what are you wanting to do with this gun?

Haha. This was my first gun, gifted to me by my father on my 10th birthday, so it won't be going anywhere, and it actually shoots like a dream and is perfect for doves. These 20's built on the 12 frame are very sought after in the skeet community due to their mild recoil.

That said, I'll be buying an upland specific shotgun in the near future and this gun will be relegated to wingshooting/skeet shooting.

Wanting to put an aftermarket stock on it, cut the barrel down a couple inches and have it tapped for screw in chokes. It has some major pitting on it from where the previous owner neglected it and let it sweat, so it's one of those guns that has value to me, and no one else.

I’m big on not changing guns that my Dad gave me. I’d buy something else to accomplish my goals and leave that one alone.

A Remington 870 or 11-87 Compact would accomplish your goals and maybe cheaper with less headache. Lol

Understood, but for this gun to function the way I'd like it to, I'll make the changes. I have plenty of heirloom guns I'll be inheriting some day, and I try not to get nostalgic about guns that I hunt with and view more as tools.

Got a 12ga 1100/1187 synthetic stock and put it on the gun this evening. Suprisingly, the forend was a pretty tight fit and the barrel channel isn't really noticeably out of place, fit and finish isn't bad at all. Where the butt stock meets the receiver required some sanding to allow a solid fit, but overall, the 12ga stock fit the 20ga very well.
