Rem 700 date of manufacture

The serial number on the receiver not a date code. Those manufacturing date codes are for barrel codes stamped in the barrel not receiver serial numbers. That's why it's not making sense to you. If RR were on the barrel it would be either 1946 or November 1997

And they've been making RR serial-ed receivers for about 10 15 years now. Rumor has it the new re-started production are using a new prefix but I haven't seen any yet.

Well, this serial number I just mentioned is on the receiver and not the barrel. I used to be able to call Remington's customer service, give them this number and get my answer. But thats all gone.

So, what is the manufacturing date based on your knowledge and this serial number?

I don't know off hand. I've never seen a list. I still have 4 of them I own. Two shorts, RR5's and two longs, RR8 and an RR9. The RR8 and RR9 are from 2013 give or take? I really don't recall and don't have a record in front of me for the RR5 serial. Yours I assume would be earlier production than what I own.

To find the exact date of manufacture you need to check the barrel for the 2 letter code stamped just in front of the recoil lug - see picture. If it still have a factory barrel that code will tell you the month and year it was built. The "RR' stamped actions have been around for a bit so the date code will tell you the exact date.

Sorry for the picture not being better but I think you can see the "CL' stamp.

Got it, thanks!

Here is the two letter code on the barrel. Can one of you gurus identify the year of manufacturing for me? Thanks.View attachment 383576
1st letter "E" is the month code which is October, "J" is year code and should be 2015 which should be correct, since it also has a "RR" serial number which goes with that year code. Also the funky mark behind the serial number started showing up on actions around this time.

Having similar issue getting date on rem 700 .243win. It has more than 2 letters and chart doesn't explain this. Anyone know the date?
