For all the people that agree with Matt, What clothing, packs, bows, and rifle brands etc do yall run?
What I agree with is that the hunting tradition shouldn’t be solely influenced by the people who stand to make money from pimping our sport.
I also think social media is terrible for our tradition.

That doesn’t really affect what I buy for my enjoyment. I guess that’s why I’m not welcome on either side of the debate.

This is funny - I think guys who deck themselves out in Sitka are Dbags. Based on several interactions with them in different settings. I always laugh when I see rifle hunters all camo’d out, especially in sitka.

FWIW - I am at a point in my life where I can afford whatever hunting gear I want. I think camo is way over rated and for the most part a marketing ploy.

I love Sitka. I’ve bought and used all the big expensive brands. And the cheap ones too. Sitka is the best for my money.

I like their marketing too. It’s inspiring and the story telling is great.

Some people just like to complain and be negative all the time. I find the good in all of it if I can. Life’s better that way.

I don’t wear my camo for anyone’s approval, I have a variety of different manufacturers hunting gear, it’s pretty hard to beat Sitka when your duck hunting in freezing rain, and the stuff works great rifle hunting in snow and wet weather, I paid my dues over the years, I enjoy what keeps me comfortable while in the field. I can’t stand the guy anyway.

I only wear camo if its free and fits well. The animals don't care, especially at 500 yards.

I won't shoot past 350 yards because I never have needed to in AK. If 500-yard kills mark an excellent hunter, I'm not that guy either.

I generally don't care what anyone thinks, especially professional persona's, but I do care how my energy impacts the world.

IMO, Matt Rinella cares about that too, and he has stood up for what he believes and is now in the folds of his audience (and haters) shaping his decadal positions. I give the guy credit for hustling to have a voice on the same frequency as his friends and family members who are successful.

If he's still around after 10 years, judge him then. He's doing aiight, IMO.

Watched quite a few Meat Eaters, enjoyed them but was easy to see the God Complex starting w/the whole corporate branding vibe trajectory. Stopped watching listening back then.

If someone doesn't reign him in, put some checks on what comes out of his mouth, not going to be good.

For someone who profits from one outdoor gear company to squeal about another and call for people to not buy it is old, tired, pathetic. But followers follow.......

You’re mixing Matt Rinella and Steven Rinella. One makes his living off of hunting and selling gear, the other is a scientist who is looking at the correlation between social media/hunting tv and the increase in hunting pressure and speaking a lot of truth that many don’t want to hear

This doesn’t surprise me. When he was a guest on the meat eater podcast he was so rude to Steve . I actually felt bad.

And this is coming from the guy that’s generally annoyed 95% of the time with Steve interrupting everybody.

I could be totally wrong, but I really feel like he is jealous of Steve’s success, he is being contrarian because of it.
Yeah it all really has a "Legends of the Fall" feel to it. It's even happening in Montana.

Ahh forgot. Meme form....

My guess is under 1%. It's one thing to do it on a range or in a pasture in summertime, but cold bore hits at 500+ in the mountains is a different story.
You honestly think only 1% of western hunters can consistently take game at 500 yards? (Assuming common sense is used like don't shoot in a 30 mph cross wind)

solely influenced by a short film?

No way, gear isnt a hunting tradition to begin with its a creature comfort

google search for Sitka vs Kuiu vs Patagonia probably takes you to a Rokslide debate well before a sitka short film hunting video

ya know...Fred Bear and others killed an aweful lot of critters close up with a bow in dungarees and a red/black checkered plaid shirt or jacket.....in all kinds of places and conditions. interesting just how important everyone thinks camo and technical clothing is these days. salesmen abound.
