I can agree with that in a state that has a lot of OTC opportunity, but take a state like Utah. The opportunity outside of drawing a tag is pretty limited, even more so if you are a deer hunter. Most OTC tags are capped and sell out quickly.
Resident.

There's not yearly opportunity in Utah? I was thinking you'd say nevada lol

I know it's against the grain of this thread but there's a new gritty podcast with Brady Miller about hunters perception on getting tags

Brian call -"if your someone that complains about competition, your a bitch, and your gona lose"

Typically dont like gritty but i guess we semi aline on this topic, wish he wouldn't have posted the video tho 🤣

And yet he whined about not getting an Arizona deer tag last year after being someone that took money to promote Arizona deer hunting

I didn’t say there wasn’t yearly opportunity, although it is decreasing and decreasing rapidly.

For general season deer, there are a few units that can be drawn with 0 point for archery but those a becoming less and less common. I ran the numbers last year and my home unit, all held equal, the last year that you had a shot at an archery tag with 0 points, that’s a shot, not guaranteed, is 2025. Guess what, they cut tags this year. I would bet that pushed it to this year was the last year you had a shot.

Sometimes there are some left over tags that you can purchase but not always.

General Elk. You can get some tags over the counter. 15000 for spike and 15000 for any bull. They all sell out pretty quickly, like hours. Unlimited if you hunt archery in August. That’s the only tag that is guaranteed in Utah every year. Guess what though, two years ago they tried to take those tags to a draw.

My point is that the ability to do what you said and “play the draws as an auxiliary” is not going to be a viable option for many western states in the next 5-7 years if something doesn’t change.

Definitely. It’s most certainly not your inability to form and process a cogent thought or entertain anything outside your narrative.

But this is a lot like fishing trips with my dad. Sometimes we’d cast out and catch chubs or carp. After a while it was a decision to keep casting and interacting with undesirable fish or cut bait and just move on. No sense in continuing to cast when what’s biting isn’t worth casting to.

Snip.
I agree. Notice my short answers since your panties become waded up.

Right you are. I’ve refrained from correcting some of his posts calling into question my intelligence. Sometimes that low hanging fruit isn’t worth picking.
Whew. I’m back now. Sorry about that. I was in my fishing kayak on the pamlico sound. Catching red fish. The bite slowed so I checked in. The wind made it rough so I didn’t spell check.

Next time I’ll pay better attention. Because there is nothing on earth that demands as much attention as discussing hunting and fishing subjects on the internet.

You fellas keep the brims flat, the rig on a 4” lift and beaded mud tires, with a clean snorkel. It’s important to look the part at least. And, it’s even more important to sound the part.

He’s not killing for content, nor making money. Where is the hypocrisy? He’s stated clearly social media itself or podcasts are not the issue.
He has most definitely stated that social media is an issue in the few episodes I’ve listened to. So unless he changed his viewpoint on that, I’m not sure. I will add, though, I’m not disagreeing with that statement as a whole.

Side note: I don’t really care. I’m just commenting because I’m new in Rokslide and I’m trying to hit my comment limit 😂

Of course that was the technical hunting clothing of that time go figure.

Wrong, it’s just what they had. I’m sure most of us have a good broken in pair of jeans and a flannel we could throw on today too and they would most definitely get the job done the same as they did back then.

Marketing has had a profound impact on what people feel they need vs what they actually need.

“what they actually need”? When did you or anyone else become the arbiter of what another man needs? See this is the same in all of the pursuits I’m in. Seems those who don’t use top tier gear for whatever reason like to snub those who do. I’ve seen the same thing in optics, fly fishing, hunting weapons, etc. I personally like using the best for me in all my pursuits. Could I do it in jeans and a t shirt? I have before. But now I don’t.

I wouldn’t care what you were wearing or carrying. Can’t remember a time I scrutinized another man’s gear. I simply don’t care. I’ll share a fire with any decent human and never even consider their gear and celebrate their success right alongside them.

So no, I don’t think it’s those using top gear making the judgements. In my experience it’s the opposite.

Was once told how stupid I was for having a thousand dollar fly rod, followed by “ my Walmart rod will catch just as many fish.” Funny, I never even knew that was what he was using. I just went fishing. But he sure as hell had examined the rod I was using, and judged me for it.

Don’t worry, the egos of Sitka haters are just as fragile as those that wear Sitka.

My point about marketing completely flew over your head. I also don’t think anyone needs anything more than a pair of pants, shirt, jacket, etc to kill stuff but i’d be open to hearing your argument to the contrary.

Wear what you want no one cares but just know someone 100% convinced you that you needed it via slick marketing. That’s a fact, you don’t have to accept it of course.

I’m so glad to have you to analyze and figure me out. How I made it half a century before you is beyond me. I’ve been duped by slick marketers. It could have zero to do with trying different things and finding what works best for me.

Never once did I say anyone needs it to hunt. Need isn’t part of my way. I buy what I want. The fact is that my time in the field is more enjoyable when I’m comfortable. I spend tons on different boots for different areas. I buy the clothing that fits me the way I like and that performs in the environments I’m in. I buy several bows a year if I draw one and like it. Rifles come home if they catch my eye. And most happen without ever seeing any advertisement or reading a review. If I see it and I want it, I buy it. Zero concern if it’s what I “need.” Do your thing. It truly makes zero difference to me and I’d never try to analyze your reasons. Just not that desperate to justify my own decisions.

I’m gonna need new blades on these things soon.

And marketing got them to buy flannel and jeans. All Yukon Jack had was beaver skin pants he made him self and buck skin shirt and he killed stuff.

Much more to the story. They forget to mention that they paid for this DB snowboarder in the range of 20-30 k to go elk hunting. All the newbs won’t realize this marketing scheme and think elk hunting is easily and crowd the wild places and take our opportunities away even more.

I’ve owned some Sitka pieces for 8-10 years. While I won’t throw them in the trash I def won’t be buying anymore.
I hate a lot of the videos and social media around a lot of hunt for this reason. But from a business side your saying there stupid for sending him on a hunt because that’s gonna connect with new people ( that may buy there gear to go hunting) and crowd the woods even more? 🤔 there business is selling clothes so I feel like you just admitted it was a good move for them.

Gheez man, does anyone actually spend time around you? You seem like a great way to ruin a good time.

All these guys saying all you need is jeans and a flannel are crazy. I wear first lite stuff, not sitka, but the technical clothing makes a huge difference. Merino base layers don't retain odor, they're more versatile for different temperature ranges, they dry faster. You don't NEED fancy hunting clothes but who cares what another man wears or spends his money on.
