Rein Garage Sale

anyone ever go to these garage sale events? i am a member but have never been there!

Been many times and always get a few good deals. Go in with an open mind and nothing specific in mind. I have always gotten great gear but if you go in with something specific in mind you may not find it.

Recent Garage Sale purchases: Patagonia Down Vest $50, 12 cup percolator $10, A three man quarter dome $100, as well as a bunch of small odds and ends. Everything was in great shape and hard to tell what was wrong with them. The tent had a broken pole but I sent it out and got it fixed for $35, so I still came out way ahead.

I've been a few times. You can find some good deals on returned items, blems, slightly damaged products, etc. Usually a line to get in though so if you want the good stuff, show up early.

hmm sounds decent... ya I don't know what I need but went into REI the other day and the girl kept telling me to check it out.. so figured I would... will probably take the wife and kid as well.. if it is too crazy of a line though it doesn't sound too fun,... we will see!

thanks

The crazy people will be camped out well before opening. I avoid the circus after getting talked into going once

The Denver Flagship does it the best.... at 7 in the morning (maybe 8, look up the time if you want to go) they pass out different colored raffle tickets. Right before they open, they draw tickets and assign each color an entrance time. When you get in, you have a limited amount of time to shop. When time is up, they kick you out and do a restock before the next crew rolls in. Around 12 or so, it opens up and you can come and go as you please.

This makes it so much better than waiting in line or camping out. No matter what time you get assigned to, you have a good shot of getting good gear

I stopped trying, no way I'm camping out for a few hours prior just to save a couple $$$. The first 50 people get most of the good stuff, I went after the line died down and all that was left were broken items that really were not deeply discounted.

I got pretty lucky! I was by no means in the front of the line as I took the wife and kid so we got there right when they opened. And we were in the back of the line. I got a Q-Core SL pad that said used 1 time didn't like it was marked down from $169 to $69 and this thing is crazy comfy also got a down pillow because it's all about comfort!

Could have picked up some decent light weight tents as well but didn't have the money!

Best part of taking the wife was she bought this stuff for me for Father's Day!

I would go again

If they did this here then I would definitely consider going again.

I think you went to the last one and I went to the one before it and we both had the same experience. I think I was maybe around #100 in line give or take and by the time we got in, there was a bunch of stuff but mostly just shoes, random clothes and the most random assortment of gear and gear parts. Perhaps it's because the KC store isn't as big of a market, I don't know.

They do raffle tickets at mine too in Folsom. Nice score on the pad, I was hoping to find one of those. I did end up picking up a primus stove cup combo for 30 bucks that I was pretty happy with.

The raffle is the best. The Denver REI is close to some good breakfast spots, so even if you have to wait an hour or two, there is stuff to do. Even though we were the second or third wave to go in, there was still some awesome gear. Lots of snowshoes, tents and other high price items that were in great condition.

Wish I could have gone today!

I saved roughly $300 on Saturday on the gear I purchased. I got there at 4AM and was 30th in line. Hardly a few dollars and well worth the wait.

The time before, I saved over $400. I camped out for that one and was 4th in line.

Just sayin' ;)

Not our store, if you have kids you know of the Bob strollers, ours had a broken model that was only $100 off retail. Like Brad said there just has been random gear, clothes and shoes, oh and a broken go pro (this made me laugh). It is a new store so maybe it'll get better but it is also in KS.
