I think the issue is game is super lean to begin with, the micro will zap any remaining moisture out of an already dry meat, plus continue to cook said meat, which isn’t going to help with flavor

Red meat, medium rare. Add coarse salt. It's better than freshly cooked.

Ground meat and rice cold is a staple of my diet. I love it.

If I am reheating, it's something that was slow cooked. Fried in butter.

Use your double boiler ----- put a little water in the bottom, heat the meat to the temp. you want. Then, put it in a very hot cast iron skillet (turn it frequently or stir) or the oven to bring back the texture.

I use this method for wild game as well as fried chicken, fried pork chops, bbq, etc. It works for us.

No microwave --- it gives it some kind of wonky taste that isn't fit for the pigs.

Definitely can't nuke any meat in the microwave on full throttle. Cooks it to past well done in no time flat. If you put a piece of medium rare meat in the microwave you've got to do it short and on low power just to warm it. Like others have said, use a pan or the oven. Or microwave low and for short periods of time. Then it's fine.

I reheat wild game in the microwave all the time, but I put the power down to 40-60%, 2-3 minutes. Works fine. Reheat but don’t cook is the goal.
I only reheat my game steaks in a cast iron skillet as other's have said but your point is huge IMHO.

I see so many people that have zero clue that power settings exist on microwaves or what they actually do. I never reheat anything at full power. Ever. 60% is my go to. The microwave can only heat the outside of food so when you let it pause with the lower power settings that gives the heat a little bit of time to penetrate between heats so it warms and doesn't recook.

OP, is it all cuts that you feel that way or something specific? I’ve had shredded meat reheat with a little funk but that’s about it.
It's all of it. But what's weird is my wife doesn't notice it. And it sounds like half the people on here don't notice it. It's like a unique characteristic that some people have and some don't.

Interesting. Probably just overcooking it on the reheat. For steaks I like to reheat them in the air fryer at 300° for a couple minutes then don’t open it for another 5 minutes. That usually heats it back up to serving temp without being too obvious it’s leftovers.

Yeah microwave is terrible for reheating most red meat - I have been using the reheat on the air fryer and it’s much better

I don’t get it. Everyone keeps saying microwave is terrible for meat. Even thick beef steaks reheat in 20-25 seconds. Hot and sizzling. It doesn’t ruin it at all in my experience.

Depends on what it is, whole muscle cuts will dry out as theres not alot of fat like farm raised animals, ground stuff should be fine if you know how to cool

Does anyone else think reheated wild game (Deer, elk, antelope) is disgusting? I can make a meal that is delicious, but then if I reheat it a day later, I can't hardly tolerate it. I have to eat game cold if I'm going to have it as leftovers. Something about reheating it makes it super gamey. Does anyone else experience this, or have any solutions?
I think even the highest quality beef steaks taste bad when reheated and eaten as-is. However, slicing up leftover steak, beef or game, and using it in chili or tacos is great.

Wild game is a staple in our house. The wife and I both love it when it's fresh, but we cannot force ourselves to eat it the next day because it tastes so different when reheated in the microwave. Between the taste and the overexaggerated smell after microwaving, we've learned to only cook as much as we can eat fresh. I'll take the tips from this thread into account and try the cast iron or lower microwave settings next time.

One thing that I don't remember seeing mentioned here is the broiler in your oven.

I never use my microwave, unless I am heating up coffee or soup. Maybe melting butter or some other fat.

When I reheat leftovers, it's almost always under the broiler with the "low" setting.

The microwave works by accelerating the water molecules in your food. My opinion is that it makes any meat kind of gross. It's certainly fine for some things, but definitely is not doing meat any favors.
