What are you guys using for Red head lamps?
I've got a super powerful regular white light one but have been curious about a nice small red lamp for walking to my areas before it's light.
Any suggestions? Are they worth using to not spook animals? I'll be walking through pretty open old burned area.

For a red light I really like the sofirn Jethro posted. I do still bring my fenix headlamp for when I want a white light. The sofirn works, I just like the fenix better

I’ve got a short box full of Black Diamond and Petzl…. Finally ran across Peax!!!

I was tired of stumbling my way in on trail with a dim, flood style red light. No longer…. The Peax has 3 settings on white AND red and is Spot style

Absolutely love my Peax!

Really like my (multiple) Fenix HM50R 500’s… several white levels and red as well.

I’ve been very happy with the Sofirn mentioned above. Rechargeable, super bright white and red light, great battery life… can’t beat it for the money. I was going to get a Peax until I stumbled onto a thread here and also watched the mindful reviews YouTube video on the two headlamps. I suggest watching it if you have the time!

Sofrin 100% for the red light. However comparing the white litght to that of a Black Diamon it isnt close. The Sofrin casts a wide beam where the Black Diamon is more focused.

I’ve had good luck with the $40 Petzl’s, plus I still haven’t converted to a rechargeable yet.

Just got my Nitecore NU25 ultralight. I love this thing. There is only one brightness for red though, if that is a dealbreaker. (Wont be for me).
I've been using blackdiamond ones forever (~20 years), but had the plastic gear thing that keeps it upright break, and decided to go a different route. Went petzl for a bit, but never could get used to the function of the button.

I ordered a couple Sofirns for night hunting. Pretty sure they overkill for what I need. But for the price oh well.

Petzl Tactikka. The red light is bright enough to hike at night by it. I usually run alkaline batteries in it unless it's going to be cold and then I use lithium. I recently got the Petzl Core rechargeable battery for it so I'll be trying that on my next trip.

I've got a Sofrin in my shopping cart. I'll probably order it next week. Strictly looking at it for a red light. Like I mentioned I've got a great super bright rechargeable white light that I'm happy with. Just wanted to try something red for those night hikes.
