I was scouting an area a couple weeks back and have to traverse through a couple nasty burns 17 and 14 year old burns to get to it and the north and east facing slopes where lodgepole pine grew is pretty nasty. Anyhow thats how I lost it, a vortex not the most secure case that is forsure, quiet to get it out though.

I can make or have made another case so a strong solid case will be a bonus forsure but not a requirement. Need one asap, wouldn't mind upgrading to European glass and as far as i'm aware my options for those would be Zeiss, Leica, Swarovski? Not sure which one is lowest to highest quality. I shoot archery a lot, good light drawing qualities are important, toughness is important i'm out a lot and in some rugged stuff.

TIA for any suggestions, depending on price I may go non European glass so open to other manufacturers but I am leaning towards top quality.

I don’t have a recommendation for you on which to get, but I do have separate rangefinders for archery and for rifle. Reason being is I want my archery one to be as small/compact as possible. I don’t need all of the extra stuff that comes on a larger rangefinder for rifles (I.e barometer, thermometer, ballistic calculator etc while quietly stalking into bow range). Just food for thought if that’s an option for you.

Have you ruled out rangefinding binos? When an old curmudgeon like me is coming around to the idea of a single optic around my neck it seems to have some merit for a number of reasons. You just added another. It's not easy or common to lose the binos.

Vortex gets a lot of hate, but I have 4 and all have worked flawlessly for years. Easily get out to 1500 yards which is more than anyone is gonna shoot. With all of the electronics in a rangefinder, that warranty is very nice. I have had 2 other brands and both broke and you are just plain outta luck. I have never thought about better glass in a rangefinder. that is what I use binos or a spotting scope for. Just my .02

I like Leica as they are more compact than a lot out there. I also have a Vortex 4000 that is a little bigger. All have worked perfectly.
The one feature the Leicas have that I wish the Vortex did is auto brightening/dimming of the display.

I like my Leica Max. Glass is great for a rangefinder. Doesn’t feel like you’re looking into a black hole. Significant upgrade from my leupold

Hey guys thanks for the replies, i'll head to some stores soon and have a look through some. The vortex was good other than some issues with the housing but I am out all days off and rough on gear so it seen some beatings, that being said never failed me.

Before posting this something was drawing me to zeiss but now leaning to leica, we'll see the options and what I end up going with. New case will probably be a must this time. Need a new bino harness too maybe have a look at one of those Marsupials.
