Recommendations on suppressor and barrel length for a .308

Dont fool yourselves into thinking that because a decibel rating under 140 that it is hearing safe. It is hearing safer, but not safe. An occasional exposure will cause no damage, typically. Shots without a suppressor can, and most likely will, cause some form of permanent damage. You cannot expect to expose your ears to 135db without damaging them when you have just fired more than a few shots without time in between them.
Given that, do a 16" and shoot some heavy bullets. In my 16" shooting 178 ELD-X I am still supersonic to a grand and have 1,000 ft/lbs at 600 yards. This will fit the bill for most hunters than can still admit that the 308 is plenty of rifle.

Check out Gemtech The One suppressor. I have it and I am completely satisfied with its performance.

That's a fair point. I do know that when i'm hunting in the cold I like to wear a beanie and tend to not wear any hearing protection, so even being a bit quieter/safer is still a big plus for me. I don't have much more hearing to lose before I'm in really bad shape.

That is a definite plus about the .308 being able to fire heavier bullets than a 6.5CM. At this point I think either is plenty to get the job done, I just need to figure out the distances I will use it the most. Thanks for the input.

Have a ruger gunsite scout with a 16” barrel. With a 7.62 spec war which is about 8 in its a relatively handy rifle. It is louder than my 24” 308 but I shoot generally with electronic ear pro on

I have a Rem 700 20” and a heavy steel suppressor. It’s great to shoot, sucks to carry. I just bought Barrett Fieldcraft 308 18” threaded and will eventually buy a Thunderbeast ultra 7. That Barrett is real hard to find now. That Ruger would be good, or a Kimber Adirondack is nice. I think 18” is a good length.

I just ordered a suppressor & after doing tons of research I went with the Griifin Sportsman Ultralight 300.
Mine will be used while hunting so weight & length were major factors.
Make sure you check the specs because when you look at the 5" models there's hardly any reduction compared to the 7" & 9" models.
I really wanted the TBAC 7 but it was gonna be over 7 months just to get it t o the FFL so you might wanna take lead times into consideration as well. The griffin was in stock & patience is not one of my strong attributes.

but supressor wait times are a year plus. So why does the 7 months matter?

There are a ton to choose from. TBAC is always good. SlincerCo Harvester and Hybrid would be a good choice as well. Good luck. I’m 4 months into a wait as we speak.

I'm not sure if this is completely accurate but this is how it was explained to me by 3 different (Class 3) FFL's I spoke with:
The long wait times are for the government to approve your application once they receive it.
That process doesn't even begin until the FFL has your suppressor in hand because that specific suppressor has to be listed on the form with the model & serial #.
I chose the Griffin because it was in stock instead of waiting for the TBAC 7 and adding 7 more months to be able to start the process.

Ahh ok. That makes sense. I didn't know the can had to be in stock to start the wait. Don't blame you one bit on not wanting to extend the wait.
