Hi guys, i hunting mainly small roe deer and wild boars (occasionally fallow deer and red deer), my hunts are all one day hunts (usually i take the animal in the first hour or two after i start hunting in the morning.. sometimes it takes a few hours more but i never go too far away from the car). The enviroment is the italian hills, which are often very steep. Occasionally i hunt in the alps or in the plains. I hunt in every season and i don’t carry the animal in the pack. I shoot from a bipod or tripod and only occasionally i use the pack itself (only for relatively short range shots, inside 220 yards since i found that POI consistency is greater with the bipod). So i need a short-medium range pack. It must carry
-papers for selective hunting
-tripod for camera (very light manfrotto)-I like to take a pic with the animal after i take it)
-camera
-1 liter of water
-1 rainproof tarp
-spare batteries for optics and a victorinox multi tool knife
-possibly spare clothes (1 pile)
-sometimes spotting scope (Usually i just use the NX8 on my rifle which goes to 32x and it works very well also for taking a better look to the animal before taking a shot
-a small rear bag for shots past 220 yards
-flash light with headstrap
-some food
Better if the backpack has a open lateral pocket for the rear bag which is this way easily accessible. I prefer cordura over newer tech materials because i need a very durable pack, banking it against rocks and in vegetation
I can put all this stuff in a 30 liter backpack (Karrimor sf sabre 30), as i do now, even if i would prefer to have a little bit of additional space. In the past I used also a wisport reindeer 55 L which was maybe a bit oversized for my applications but worked very well (wisport is a polish military and outdoor brand with a huge selection of backpacks).
So my questions:
-which are in your experience pros and cons of a 55 L vs a 30 L pack other than weight and bulk?
-I was thi king that maybe a more “tactical style pack” with more compartimentalization could be useful, what do you think about tactical va hunting style packs?
-do you have a specific model to recommend me?
Thanks!
Simone
